    UAI for Fashion & Textiles

you can have a look on the fashion + textiles website (http://www.dab.uts.edu.au/fashion/), but i couldn't find any numbers when i checked just then. the other design courses have pretty high entry requirements, but they've been dropping recently (vis comm was 92.65 last year, industrial was...

    Major work questions

graphically, they're really beautiful. an artist's book could be a really good format to present them in, and maybe a few large-format (A2, A1 maybe) prints too. conceptually/thematically though, you'd need to make sure all the images you decide to submit link together well to get really top marks.

    Kitsch

hmm. if it's going to be kitsch, then why not play on this aspect. make it outrageously kitsch, so that the tackiness of it all forms a way of expressing what you wanted to say. if it's a serious social commentary type theme you're after, you could make it really kitsch, tacky, and...

    Boat People

hmmm the herd/ozi battla pretty much sum it all up for me. the lyrics for their song "77% (Tampa Tantrum)" well i'm left sitting here, staring into a beer shaking my head at the same old loathing and fear stranger in my own land, i can't understand how the very word australian has just...

    Vis Comm. and Int. Std

viscomm's eally good fun. lots of work -- deadlines have a habit of creeping up on me. there's a big emphasis on hand-drawn work, or work produced using things besides computers (collaging, photocopiers, fax machines, typewriters, drawing, sewing, anything goes really). doing everything on the...

    Computer needed?

hmm design is getting less girly these days. i'd say it was around about 50/50, but maybe weighted just a tiny bit towards girls (or at least in my year anyway). (trivia: there are only 4 guys in the entirity of first year (well, now second year i guess) fashion). i have my own computer...

    Directions to Building 6

10 minutes? more like 3, i think. i do this journey most lunchtimes. and i like my way better, you get to cross the footbridge. 1. rock up to front of that ugly, ugly tower building 2. turn right just before you go in the door, and go past that ugly, ugly statue of monkeys doing their thing...

Design scholarships + Vis com course

and as for scolarships, i think your best bet is to ring up the DAB faculty office and ask them about it. ring them on 95148913, or 95148978.

Design scholarships + Vis com course

nah, it's good fun (i do it) heaps of people in the course (about 4 out of every 10) didn't study art or design at school, and are doing it anyway... there's a theory side to it as well, it ends up about 60/40 prac/theory. it's a really good course as far as graphic design's concerned, the...

    Define "taking a risk"

hmm. going against advice, working in new media, exploring controversial themes, deliberately provoking or aggrevating someone through your work, and in the context of hsc art, breaking from the usual themes, doing a work for the work's sake instead of one that will get you good marks...

    Art fanatics

the exhibition of his stuff at AGNSW just now was pretty cool. and he does have talent. manages to make religious art interesting. his lettering style is really distinctive, and i love it how he's managed to convey all the religious stuff in an abstract style (all the numbers, and the 12...

oh, i did this a while ago but i can't remember my numbers hang on ... Economic Left/Right: -7.50 Libertarian/Authoritarian: -8.00 but i think some of the questions are geared towards left-wing responses. or maybe it's just me

    WHEN DOES ARTxPRESS GET ANNOUNCED?

hey congrats everyone who got shortlisted :D i'm not sure how big the selection pool is, for my year i think it was around abut 200, but don't quote me on that. from memory, our statements were supposed to be 50 words, but some people went pretty far over. i think mine was about 60-ish. if...

    WHEN DOES ARTxPRESS GET ANNOUNCED?

yeah, there's a shortlist (i think it was about 800 people last year), then they contact you again to say if you did/didn't get in. the final numbers over the past few years have been up and down, btween about 120 and 200-ish, i think.
