    Membrane Filters Good Question

virus - much smaller than bacteria. for bacteria, i believe it really depends on the pore size of filter and size of bacteria. I used .2 um filter before, and supposingly, should filter out bacteria oO

    Ye olde' aquatic acidic environments.

you may acidify the environment by addition of acids such as nitric acid: H+ + NO3- you will have nitrates flowing around, they however, will not participate in the redox reaction here.

    Australian National Chemistry Quiz

Wow, definitely a chem nerd in the making! lol @ sig... I joined back when I was in year 11 or something and got a measy credit =/

    Quick question about salt bridges

Also, K+ NO3- are unlikely to be oxide and reduce

You *know* you're a chemistry nerd when...

I can see why English isn't in the list. xp I would have said the same thing back in year 12, though my thoughts changed much....

    How many significant figures?

Almost correct, /clap nontheless Your final answer should be to the amount of significant figures equal to the lowest in the question. - this is correct Eg what is the weight of MgO after burning 250g of Mg, your answer would be to 2 significant figures. - This is actually...

URGENT - Question on pH calculation

now, something not needed to know in HSC: first step of ionisation is complete, but 2nd is not... so the pH of this sulfuric acid solution will be between 3.52 and 3.82

VERY GOOD CHEMISTRY QUESTION!!!!! please help

pH of acids is temperature dependent. so you are right.... though the influence will be rather small. however, evaporation of water seems more plausible...

    A Question

@ OP: depends on which end do you attach the battery... it can act as a electrolytic cell (provided the battery offers high enough voltage) or it can accelerate cu and ag's redox reaction.

    Membrane Filters Flow rate?

fast, slow.... compoaring to what? lol @ wrtsi: better hide @partisan: why not use 18M H2SO4?! more deadly, all the better.

You *know* you're a chemistry nerd when...

    I won't say that if I haven't even done 4u maths....

    help!

well answered. though from my understanding, opened switch implies no current flowing. (though it reaches the same conclusion)

    Velocity problem

except cell work going insane, which means end of the world (honour) for me =/

Some Questions me need help in :)

well answered. for 2) what you could do is construct a piece of hard cardboard or wooden board. use a chalk to divide the board into a 4x4 "chess board", and slant it on one edge. when you roll the ball down the path, you observe an effective projectile motion. only several times slower...

    Hsc Trial Question

well answered. admittedly, i overlooked several factors mentioned by you... /cheers

    Some chem questions.

    1) what a strange question. all 5 seems viable. The reaction concerned here is halogen substitution (with prescence of light). And different boiling points refer to the different isomer formed after substitution. I guess i can only assume that only 1 hydrogen will be replaced by chlorine...

    Diffusion

@1: doesn't have to go through ozone hole, i can go through the stratosphere even the hole wasn't there. Just that there's only a very small probability that will happen. @2: certainly is.... though due to the relatively immobile nature of stratosphere, it would not occur very readily.

validate the law of universal gravitation

maybe it's referring to the pendulum experiment. where you find out the gravitational constant using pendulum...

    Hsc Trial Question

hmm... I would think that mutation necessarily need to cause an error in the replication or expression of genes?

    Lil Help here please

From my almost decayed memory of nuclear physics: Either of them are used as a moderator. Heavy water is used instead of normal water because it slow down the neutron efficiently, without absorbing too many neutrons and risk losing critical mass. At the same time, D2O can also be used as...
