General Thoughts: English Paper 1 2006

I didn't. I was told never to use I in an essay...and I feel it sort of interrupts the flow of things. "I believe" can so simply be replaced by "It is enforced by .... that" or something similar.

What did you end up writing about anyway? Prepared or unprepared?

Okay, tried to do something a bit different with my story. Had a journalist who was forced against his will to go to the local retirement village and to cover "Oldies week" the party week for the elderly. He is cynical about this and starts talking to this last bloke before he leaves, his "last...

    Someone burnt the AoS Paper!

    Haha that's awesome!

    Section 3

People who did 5-7 pages...don't worry, if you did a quality essay that's all the markers care about. A well written 7 page response will get better marks than a jumbled up 16 page response.

If English was't compulsory....Who would SERIOUSLY pick it????????? lol

English has improved my writing capabilities overall, and I am able to express ideas much more fluently because of it. I don't particularly enjoy it, but I would probably still take it as it does teach vital skills and makes you more articulate.

Anyone want to post up the paper?

Didn't take my paper out of the exam, didn't think we were allowed to!

    Section 2

Yeah "old man" could've been interpreted as slang for father...hmm didn't think of that in the exam...would've opened things up a bit more I guess.

I don't believe English contributed to what I wrote in the Exam at all.

I for one know I studied like anything for this exam yet I think I did pretty average. It's just the fact that they CAN and DO throw anything at you that is irritating. You could study your ass off in one certain area and be brilliant at it, but if you mis-interpret a question or just aren't...

    For People Who Did Bad!!!

Hahahaha @ Mumma, nice one mate. Going to have to ace modules to try and put the embarrasment of this one behind me and build myself up to a decent mark. Journeys have never been my strong point.

i don't agree with this, i think using the old man character in your story was fine as long as you use it well and don't make it a death bed reflecting thing which i'm sure many people did. if you use the old man to tell a strange and non-cliched story i think you'll be right. also, you...

General Thoughts: English Paper 1 2006

People who use special provisions because of bad handwriting are ridiculous. If you've got bad handwriting, improve, it's as simple as that. They are at a massive advantage being able to type. They can get rid of errors easier, type faster...it's ridiculous.

Old man lived in mine. The "last story" referred to was the last story told to the journalist by the people in the retirement home on his coverage of "Oldies Week", the party week for pensioners.

    Media Coverage

The media are bastards. When kids find out their school is gonna be on TV and they are too they are going to lose focus from the task at hand. It might sound stupid but it's true. Anything to get a story for them though I guess.

many people argue against the question?

I wrote about how speculation is an integral part of the Imaginative journey however elements like transformation, transcending existence and the personal exeprience of the Imaginative journey are more important. In hindsight I might've done a better job than I thought I did.

Feeling Down? Stressed? Here's a Remedy

Coming on here and seeing that alot of people aren't too confident about how they went is making me feel a bit better.

General Thoughts: English Paper 1 2006

The creative could fit anything? Are you serious? It was incredibly narrow in what it was asking. First of all it gave you a very cliched quote and you had to make it about a journey of discovery. It was very limited I felt personally.

General Thoughts: English Paper 1 2006

8 pages on section one wow..I didn't know people could write that much. There are a couple of questions there that you can get full marks for with a few solid sentences.

    Section 1

Yes, I thought the landscape question didn't have enough depth to warrant 3 marks...just hope I wrote enough for it.

    Section 3

Sorta glad to see that quite a few people went against the question. Thought I was going to be the only one.
