    Cronulla Beach Incident

Yeah, standing around in a couple of big groups - talking about the Cronulla riots... It was nice to see them there, don't get me wrong, but in a way it was alarming to see so many of them. I've never seen so many at Sutherland at one time. They outnumbered passengers 2:1 on the station...

I made a point of getting my ticket out of my bag, just in case, but I guess they were after bigger fry.

    Cronulla Beach Incident

At 3ish this arvo, there were 20+ greyshirt Cityrail guards, just on the Sutherland-Cronulla platform. None of them asked to see my ticket... They all had other things on their minds.

Or, worse, that they are fighting in the war against terror on their own soil. :(

    Cronulla Beach Incident

We don't know who's in the "White Australia" crowd - we probably won't know who until it's all over and going through the courts. All that we can assume safely is that if they're down there and hanging around on the streets, they probably have an axe to grind.

I don't think that that is the case. Eg. that we might remember - The knife-carrying and police searching people that they think have knives - it was in place since '97.

    compliments...

Quoted For Truth Also, you see how these compliment the personality of the girl, rather than her looks alone. For me, it's nice to be complimented on my looks, as that shows that the complimenter appreciates the effort, but it's nicer to be complimented on my personality, as that is more...

Fellas lets ask the questions to the ladies we always wanted...

I'll have a go, although I don't know all the answers.. With the suckling - some girls will freak out, some will quite enjoy it. Why a girl might freak out is that she might think that suckling is only for babies, and that it's a bit incesty and gross. Ask first. (phrase it as a 'do you...

    Multiculturalism

It's more about ideas about important stuff, like respect and freedom, than what people do. (although what people do can show what their ideas about the important stuff are)

    Multiculturalism

I believe that 'having the desire to be Australian', like the 50s Italian etc. immigrants is a great example of multiculturalism working like it should - they didn't stop having their own culture, but they adopted the important aspects of the baseline culture. Most immigrants do integrate well...

    Cronulla Beach Incident

In this case, I think that because the scale was different (16 on 2 vs. 5000+ on 10something?) that it was more serious the second time. Also that the 'aussie' mob hurt the ambos when they were saying that they were down there to protest the bashing of the lifesavers demonstrates to me...

    Cronulla Beach Incident

Well, for starters, saying something like this: "Attacking people on the basis of their race, their appearance, their ethnicity, is totally unacceptable and should be repudiated by all Australians irrespective of their own background and their politics," Howard said. "But I'm not going...

They're getting no, or next to no, help from the federal govt.. not that they should get resources yet or anything, but moral support would be highly appreciated, I'm sure.

    Cronulla Beach Incident

Double standards? I feel that the tension is too high for any kind of peace rally atm. The mob would turn on the peace rally people, even as they have turned on the ambos and police. It's all about the intentions of both the mob, and also each individual in the mob - it's an iffy...

    Homosexuality in Australia

On transsexuality: This article made me giggle, so I'll share: It's from http://venusenvy.keenspace.com/info.html - I like the comic. :) Transsexuals can be gay, bi, or hetero, like everyone else - although what an outsider would consider a transsexual's sexuality to be depends on what...

    Cronulla Beach Incident

The thing is, because it's a racial issue, any such "peaceful rally by white Australians" will turn into a "White Power" rally, and from there into violence. :(
