depends on faculty usually. For science, generally you can't have any overlap. I'm sure there are some exceptions though, like if a major includes a few second year subjects, and some double majors are 'technically' impossible due to lack of subject choices and/or overlapping subjects from each...

download the electronic version? borrow from the library is another option (i did that last year...worked because it was a small numbered subject and no-one recalled the book for the entire semester). If you know 12 weeks in advance what the book is going to be then you can buy it off amazon?
