Yeah I was hoping Bremen would knock them out, but you can't deny the hilarity of that howler.

LMAO at the Werder Bremen goalie. Pure comedic gold!

    Oscar 2005 Thread

Walk The Line is probably the one movie that I would've been less ok with winning than Crash. "Ray for white people" indeed.

    Oscar 2005 Thread

Admittedly I didn't see last year's award show, so I missed out on Chris Rock. I thought Stewart was a heck of a lot better than Billy Crystal anyhow.

See my friend was also disappointed by Jon Stewart, I don't get what you guys found so wrong with his hosting?

My guess is that the Academy members got cold feet when they saw the sex scene. Ah.. gotta love Jon Stewart, he's one that's not disappointing anyway.

I was hoping Jake Gyllenhaal would win for Brokeback, but I'm pretty happy for Clooney to win too. Hmm.. I thought Crash for original screenplay was worse Nick

I thought you liked it? But yes, you have to quit expecting the best films to win best picture, that's just not the oscars. This year it was actually more disappointing for me that it won best original screenplay, because the screenplay was truly terrible.

Jon Stewart hosting should make this the most entertaning Oscars show yet. I'm pretty bored with Billy Crystal

Movie that made a great impression on you

Wholeheartedly agree. I was going to say Lost in Translation as well except that it didn't really offer me any new perspectives, but instead gave some shape to some of my own thoughts at the time. In hindsight Before Sunset did the same.

    Literature

Agree walrusbear. For me 1984 is to ideas what Lord of the Rings is to fantasy worlds.. actually that's a pretty clumsy analogy, but you get the idea :p Yay, another Murakami fan. It's nice to see he's getting more attention amongst people my age. Have you had a look at any of his other work?

What do you mean 'made a great impression on you' exactly? In what sense?

Essien is a pimp. One of these days he's gonna seriously piss off Robbie Savage and get his legs snapped in the next tackle.

    Literature

I find 1984 to be pretty overrated. The concept is undeniably interesting, but the prose is oh so cringeworthy at times. Call me shallow, but so much of the pleasure I derive from reading is from good writing.

    Favourite Character?

Rhett Butler from Gone With the Wind is a pretty good shout, Chaplin's tramp is a good shout too.
