    O-Week: Worth it?

Bring anything - not really, just bring money. Wearing sunscreen would be a good idea, though. And if you're going to one of the SWOT lectures you might want to bring pen and paper as well, I guess. Limit - nope. If you have an Access card you can join as many as you want.

    Official Summer Siesta 2007/8 Thread

Awesome, thanks a lot. In an ideal world I'd do both dilemmas of development and reform/revolution, but unfortunately I can't because I have to do GOVT2991 for honours, and I can't fit 3 GOVTs into first semester. I might wait until semester starts and I find out what's involved in...

    Laptops for Uni

Re: Do you use a often laptop at uni? Or will you? At the access labs or on the wireless network, you get 6MB free per day, which accumulates up to a limit of 42MB (ish).

    arts subjects

Have a look at the course outlines for these subjects from previous years: Twentieth Century Politics and Culture (PDF) American History from Lincoln to Clinton (PDF) World Politics (DOC) A number of people on BOS think that World Politics is appalling, but if you want to do senior government...

ALP to challenge result in McEwen

Fran Bailey: So votes that are obviously formal, if poorly written, should be just as invalid as votes with only one box numbered? Shut up, Fran.

    O-Week: Worth it?

Yeah, go to o-week for the free stuff alone. Lots of companies try to whore their products to the hip, trendsetting uni crowd by giving out samples. (Goulburn Valley or something was giving out free cups of delicious juice last year, for example.) Also, apparently the english department is...

    Official Apology Thread

Re: Rudd to say Sorry on February 12 I'm not saying that aborigines should be personally compensated for what happened to their parents or grandparents. But people who remain alive who were removed from their parents, possibly abused or mistreated in the missions, and so on should be...

    Official Apology Thread

Re: Rudd to say Sorry on February 12 This wasn't a war. It was a well-thought-out, continuous policy that aimed to remove every semblance of aboriginality by tearing children away from their parents. Soldiers go to war knowing that they run the risk of being killed. Aborigines didn't ask to be...

    Official Apology Thread

Re: Rudd to say Sorry on February 12 Why shouldn't people be compensated for being taken from their parents as children for the sake of an idiotic policy? Except that the High Court in Mabo decided that freehold land cannot be claimed under native title. And aboriginal people are, funnily...

    How to access WEV?

You vary enrolment from student self-admin, but variations won't be available until mid-february. And the online readings thing won't come up for a while yet either.

    reality check of uni?

Timetables come out O-week or a bit before, at which point you'll have the opportunity to match wits with the timetable system to get one that you want. And definitely don't buy any textbooks until you've been to the lectures. Half the books on the text list won't be necessary (particularly in...

    Timetables

Six contact hours a week seems very low even for an arts course, if you're doing it full-time.

    Big Decision: ANU vs USYD

Thanks for telling us why we chose to go to Usyd, that was really helpful. I don't think you can really generalise one uni as 'better' than another in all things, at least not within the top tier. It's better to compare at least on the level of the subject you want to do. Most unis are very...
