    Subject Reviews (with PDF compilation)

Re: Subject Reviews - UPDATED WITH .PDF on first post ANHS1005 Power and Persuasion in Rome Lecturer: Dr Kathryn Welch Ease: 8.5/10. Conceptually, it was nowhere near as hard as ANHS1003, because it focused more on political events than on cultural and sociological stuff. I thought it got a...

    2007 THES Rankings

http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/macquarie-uni-falls-in-list/2007/11/08/1194329413250.html So a note to those people who think university rankings have any sort of meaning: they don't. There is no way that a university can drop 86 places in one year, it just doesn't happen. The THES...

2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Rudd?

Latham savages 'Seinfeld' election Because what this campaign really needed was more Mark Latham and more displays of contempt for the aspirational voters he professed to represent. Terrible photo, huh?

StuVac & Exam Period Bitch and Moan Thread (II, 2007)

Mine was craptastic, didn't prepare enough and barely mentioned ancient sources except for a couple of passing references to Sallust, Livy and Dionysius. Managed to pull something out for the elections question, which was the same one you did. Also did Sulla (revolutionary or traditionalist, was...

    WOOO! shortlisted for scholarship!

Given my performance in today's ancient exam, I don't think that's likely, unless the cutoff suddenly collapses or I score a marker who's literally a Marxist. (I crapped on a lot about oppressive elites and quoted Mommsen the 1850s socialist ancient historian, before reading over my notes...

Thank god for classics and ancient history being such a small and non-red-taped department. With them two weeks is unusually long.

    WOOO! shortlisted for scholarship!

Agree. I know someone who was shortlisted. Then she got rejected afterwards. I don't think there's an interview. Just wait for them to contact you. Respectively: don't know, and not enough. The scholarship scene in Australia isn't well-developed.

Is it bad that I've been dreaming about exams for the last few nights? Edit: yes, it is.

2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Rudd?

He could, although he'd probably only do that if the Coalition won, and it's unlikely that Bennelong would fall in the event of the Coalition hanging on. EMRS has a poll of Tasmania showing a 59-41 split, which is actually a two point improvement for the Coalition since the last poll in August...

If you can't make the exam you'll have to apply for special consideration, which requires a doctor's certificate. http://www.usyd.edu.au/studentcentre/exams/students.shtml#illness

2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Rudd?

Re: 2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Beazley? Interest rates up. 6.75% now, 1.5% above those record lows that John informed us of at the 2004 election. Here's an interesting comparison of the ALP vote and interest rates since the last election. As expected, Labor has very...

    Subject Reviews (with PDF compilation)

Re: Subject Reviews - UPDATED WITH .PDF on first post GOVT1105 Geopolitics Lecturer: Dr Diarmuid Maguire Ease: 7/10. Most of the interesting stuff - on the rise of China, resource geopolitics and that sort of thing - was pretty easy, but the more abstract topics, mostly the cultural ones, were...

Can students finish uni faster than the determined time?

The situation at Usyd is: we have summer and winter school, where you can do units (from a limited selection) over the holidays to get your degree done quicker. It's only available full-fee, though. You can also overload to do five subjects per semester rather than four, but it's a heavy...

StuVac & Exam Period Bitch and Moan Thread (II, 2007)

Re: StuVac & Exam Period Bitch and Moan Thread (I, 2007) Woo, 85 for my ancient history tute participation. Which is good news, since it's worth 20% for some reason. That brings my pre-exam average to 82%, so I'm guaranteed a (raw) distinction provided I get 68 or better in the exam.

2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Rudd?

Re: 2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Beazley? Well, socialism is an extremely broad concept. Both of our major parties more or less adhere to social democratic concepts, which is a form of socialism, and the ALP is a member of Socialist International. But I don't think...

2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Rudd?

Primaries 47-42, which is no movement for the Coalition and a one-point (so statistically insignificant) drop for the ALP.
