Im headed off the Johns by the sounds of it! I chose it cos it looked the nicest on the outside when I went down there (didn't get to go in), and also its a real allrounder college.

They called to do an interview over the fone. They said Johns had 300 applications for 100 places, and when I sound concerned, he said 'I wouldn't worry, if you've gotten a call its cos you've been shortlisted'.

Yeah I think I'll head down there. I got a call from John XXVIII college this arvo and was basically told that I was in (he said he couldn't say it for sure until sometime next week but they were really impressed bla bla bla). But yeah they picked such a stupid day!

You're going to get a rude shock if you apply for a place purely on the basis of their pay. I think you'll find that most pay nothing more than minimum wage, because they have enough people applying that they don't need to make it any higher.

When you start earning ~$37 000 a year, a certain amount is automatically taken out of your pay, just like tax, and you keep paying till you don't owe them anything. Oh and its the same amount whether you pay it upfront or defer it (but it is adjusted for inflation). Actually, it stands for...

You don't get free travel on public transport to uni, no matter what age you are. You get student concession, but not free.

NOTHING WILL EVER REACH A CUTOFF OF 100! There is NO university course with just 22 places (most have at least 80, and up to 250), and even if there were, everyone who got a 100 UAI would have to choose the exact same course at the exact same uni!

yeah Im with Natstar, can you make yourself coherent at least! It can't be 'toughness' of getting in cos it would go by cutoffs and that list certainly doesn't go by it. If it was academic rigour you're referring to that is absolute bullshit and stop talking out your arse.

How can all cutoffs 'eventually rise to 100'? Cutoffs are based on the lowest mark that was accepted for that course (when they ran out of places to fill). If only 22 people get 100 each year (and that is the same amount every year give or take a couple), how can course cutoffs possibly rise to...

For a start. stop fkn writing peace, you sound simple. ANU is Australia's best university in terms of research, individual student attention, reputation in the international community and teaching staff. Cutoff's DO NOT indicate how 'good' a university is, it purely indicates demand. Cutoffs...
