    UNSW vs UWS Law

How on earth would you know? Did one of your teachers tell you? I can tell you that in the pointy end of business - which, to forstall the inevitable argument, is where law students tend to aspire - ANU grads are outnumbered by UNSW, USyd, UMelb and so on. Go pick up a guide to legal...

    Graduate Positions 2011

Depends how you think. I had more trouble in the softly softly talk-fests of law firm interviews than I did interviewing for Macquarie and BCG...

    UNSW vs UWS Law

Being a great lawyer is enormously facilitated by the environment you're working in. It's much easier to be a great lawyer working in a top-tier firm than it is clawing your way up from the bottom from a suburban practice. No one is saying that the university is everything. But the university...

    UNSW vs UWS Law

Way to miss the crucial point about getting the job after leaving university...

Does the other degree in the double degree component matter?

Your signature indicates that you've already made up your mind? The second degree will have little impact on the area of law that you enter, but could have a major impact if you think you'd like to enter business - be that finance or accounting or whatever - rather than... uh, just law I guess.

    Graduate Positions 2011

Keep in mind that there are other places worth looking for graduate employment than the law firms. For people who didn't enjoy the clerkship experience or want to look elsewhere for some other reason (like practicality - law firms will be taking almost no graduates) then the following are worth...

is my father right - how much of a factor is the 'reputation' of the uni? usyd vs UTS

Re: is my father right - how much of a factor is the 'reputation' of the uni? usyd vs This is a pretty compelling practical argument to add to what you already know - that the reputation of USyd will outweigh that of UTS when it comes time for job applications. I'd say that the choice should...

    Failed commerce subjects

Everyone on this site is (rightly?) obsessed with prestige. Accounting and finance are widely considered as more difficult majors, making the degree more prestigious in the eyes of the recruiter. Good combination for you if you know exactly what you want to get in to.

Is ANU HONESTLY Good for Undergraduate Law?

Any particular strengths that a law faculty has fades in significance compared to the prestige/reputation of the institution. I honestly don't think ANU is worth moving to if you can go to a Go8 law school. If you're comparing ANU to, say, UWS or Macq, then jump in.

Considering law at uni but really unsure. Please help!

A 60 hour week would be the absolute minimum you'd work. It's a little rude to ask the same question in two different threads.

    Commerce/Law, major in accounting

You should do commerce/law. Accounting as a single degree, without honours, is not perceived well enough to get through the door at an investment banking or MC firm. If your average is quite high and you interview well, your chances are pretty good - I managed without anything particularly...

Where to study law, and what to combine with? (and other such questions)

Use the search function. Seriously, this is asked in every single thread. If you want to be a lawyer, then the difference in job prospects are negligible. If you think you might want to do something more in the commercial sphere, or are very convinced that the commercial side of law is what...

    getting into law

Given that first year subjects are bell-curved, this can't possibly be true. That said, pretty much everyone I know found that 70 WAM for first year commerce was pretty straightforward. Just bear in mind that 70 is an above-average performance.

Off unsw law by 0.15 whats the chances of getting in?

Yes. It's not the same degree. The reference to the "first" would be a reference to the Times rankings, yeah? Those are based on the quantity and quality of research that's put out by the university - or, at least, that's the primary basis (how else do you objectively measure it?). Since...

    International/global studies & law at USYD/UTS/UNSW

Yeah, there's both of those breeds, but they're few and far between. Top tier clerks are overwhelmingly USyd or UNSW. As I mentioned in another thread, particularly if you've got investment banking or consulting ambitions then UTS will make what is already a real serious struggle even more...

    International/global studies & law at USYD/UTS/UNSW

Maybe you can't? I dunno. I'm a fair way out of applying for university degrees.... though, if the four extra points you're referring to at UNSW are in reference to the bonus scheme, those don't apply to law for obvious reasons. If you have any interest in practicing law or entering business...

    International/global studies & law at USYD/UTS/UNSW

I don't think that the differential between UNSW/USyd and UTS is stark enough to justify the ludicrous expense of full-fee paid (if that's your plan, as it seems to be). If you go to UTS and you're any good (read: you get credits and distinctions), with your current ATAR you could transfer...

Need advice from UTS law students.

I'd be fairly surprised if you needed to venture from the UTS library at all frequently. Even if it isn't as good, it's probably more than good enough to complete undergraduate research. In terms of interlibrary loans, they're possible but I think you need to call and arrange them. I've never...

Yet another UNSW vs USyd Thread.

The degrees are basically identical. UNSW has slightly better graduate outcomes (on average). Frigid should be in here shortly to give you the statistics Graduate prospects at the thin end of the wedge (top-tier law, consulting, investment banking) are anecdotally slightly better at Sydney...
