Beijing vs Athens vs Sydney opening ceremony

How do you suppose the 'shit air quality' is managed for the opening ceremony? Look at their booming economy, population, etc - can't expect it to mirror the air quality in Sydney...obviously. Real fireworks and what's this 'rent-a-crowd of people's army'?

Beijing vs Athens vs Sydney opening ceremony

Beijing, hands down. Sydney faked the orchestra, playing along to a pre-recorded symphony which featured the Melbourne orchestra. Despite all the 'flaws' our media picked up, all in all, it was grand. The huge LCD screen, abundance of symbolism (shows how much thought they put into it)...

Should I drop Physics, Biology, or Economics?

I'm probably biased but... Biology. No question about it. I rank Economics and Physics well above Biology.

    2008 Presidential Election - Obama v McCain

McCain needs to rally up more celebrities to back him up I can just imagine all the voters going for Obama because so-and-so support him I'm thinking Obama by a mile, but wouldn't be too surprised if McCain ends up winning (think Bush v Gore in Michael Moore's documentary, thoughts?)

Have you or do you know of anyone who's worked in IBs/financial services @ Hong Kong?

Yes but it would be wise not to rule out Cantonese completely. Especially if you want to be based in Hong Kong, you will find a use for it. As for the Vietnamese comment, businessmen from Vietnam are slowly creeping into the HK markets (very small, nearly insignificant - but may develop into...

Have you or do you know of anyone who's worked in IBs/financial services @ Hong Kong?

Times have changed. You'll find that ALOT of the HK residents are speaking mandarin (however poorly) these days, even in the markets haha

    Beijing Olympics 2008 Discussion Thread

+1 Keating TodayTonight should've been put on hold like the rest of ch7 programs during the Olympics. All their 'reports' over the past 2 weeks were ignorant attacks on China. There are too many to recall but I do remember them having an "expert" *cough* say "the opening ceremony was faked...

    Investment Banking Internships 2008

It's probably procedure but my interviewer spent a lot of time explaining to me the process of getting the job (I'd say about 10-15minutes) just going through what I can expect at each stage Be patient! Good things come to those who wait I got a call back 2 days after my interview + an...

I have a lot of relatives working in Hong Kong financial services There's serious cash to be made there because of the flat tax rate Would be an awesome environment to work in but definitely wouldn't want to live there in the long-term Also, you need to be fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese...

was it just me or did the Chinese crowd constantly boo whenever the Opals had free throws? then when the Chinese players were up on the line, they were all chanting 'jia you' I know they're supporting their team, but the constant booing is so disrespectful, for lack of a better word
