    Important: Anti-vsu Rally

To clarify the details that aim54x originally requested: - The National Day of Action is on April 28th. The Union will be closing all outlets (ie. Manning, Holme and Wentworth) from around 9am to 2pm to show people what it will be like under VSU without Union food. At 12pm, two events will...

    help

    1) You will probably find most people will be more willing to help you if you write in more coherent language. 2) Don't worry about where other people are up to in the course, every school works to different timetables. You only need to start talking to people from other schools if you feel...

    ext history...argh!!

Guys, calm down a bit. Not every school starts the project in Term 4 of Year 11. My own first proposal was not due until about week 2 of term 2, when the final project was due week 1 of term 3. At this stage of the year, I had only just begun the very start of my project (I did preliminary...

Spectrum cultural ideas festival (aka: win iPods and get free food!)

Do you ever hold events at the Con? If so, do you make sure there is a corresponding event held at main campus (and technically, all the other campuses too) simultaneously? I know the Con might get left out more, but that's because there are more students at main campus and hence more events.

    Australian Students Prize

OK ... that would seem sensible. Possibly, they do take some form of scaling into account. For reference, I got 93+ in 13 units and 94+ in 9.

    Australian Students Prize

The actual rationale behind it is "the top 500 students in Australia" ... they award some to Olympiad medal winners, then apportion the rest out to the states to award. Thus the criteria can change each year, but for the past couple of years at least, it does seem to be given for HSC marks of...

    Australian Students Prize

Letter arrived today, though apparently recipients aren't supposed to talk to the media (not that there's really any reason to talk to the media) until your local MP gets a chance to announce it and bignote himself later in the year. Anyone else get one?

VSU Emergency Rally - Tommorow (Wed 16th)

It seems like a very out-of-the-way location, even with the sign out on Eastern Ave. I wonder how much turnover they get.

FYI, there a few more sample proposals plus tips on writing them in the "Proposals" thread of this board.

    whats hist. ext like?

Sort of. Your research project is worth 80% of your internal assessment, and thus 40% overall. But the external HSC exam is still worth 50% of your overall mark, as in any subject. So the exam is still worth more than the research project, on the whole. Yes ... if you're good at writing, the...

    History Project - Historical Biography?

Fisher Library at the University of Sydney is an excellent history library; you could also try the library at Macquarie University if you live at all north. Are you sure there aren't differing views of Pericles? I thought some sources considered him to just be an opportunist who used Athenian...

VSU Emergency Rally - Tommorow (Wed 16th)

But gaming nights with free alcoholic beverages won't be the only thing to go... As for your argument that 'banner-waving' achieves nothing, it was student activism that forced the government to reduce HECS increases from the planned 30% to 25%.

VSU Emergency Rally - Tommorow (Wed 16th)

Something else to consider with respect to VSU is the fact that student activism does save you money. The HECS increases that we've been hit with were originally slated to be 30%. Fighting by the SRC and NUS reduced this to 25%. For people doing HECS band 2 courses (science, engineering, etc. -...

VSU Emergency Rally - Tommorow (Wed 16th)

None of this precludes you from having a job... it may make it a little harder, and stop you working 20 hours a week, but it will give you enough to survive / have luxuries, especially since you don't seem to have moved out on your own (correct me if I'm wrong there though).

VSU Emergency Rally - Tommorow (Wed 16th)

You said it yourself, that was a year ago. Had you actually attended any EAG events this year, or been party to any of their (our, I am a member) correspondence, you would know that the only two issues which have been discussed this year are VSU (the sole issue that we have taken any action on)...

    State Rankings

You would think that on the whole, anyone who had a chance at topping the HSC exam would probably be ranked first in his/her school anyway.

    history extension half yearly

You should aim for a couple of historians from each of the four main schools of historical thought: - Classical (Herodotus, Thucydides, Tacitus) - Empiricist / Scientific (von Ranke, Elton, Evans, Windschuttle) - Relativist (Carr, Vincent) - Postmodernist (Jenkins, Derrida, White) BTW...

So did you have to get a job to pay for your textbooks, then? Or did you still manage to fit everything into the budget your parents provided?
