    Maths Tutoring

I’m Shafqat, and I finished at Sydney Grammar in 04, so I’ve had a couple of years of experience tutoring plenty of people. I’m offering 2/3/4 unit maths tutoring Here are my marks: Extension 1: 100 Extension 2: 99 (5th in state) UAI: 99.95 Here are my marks for my other subjects: 2/3/4u...

?/120 is good for an 80+?

That's not true, 4U is worthwhile if you enjoy it and get something out of it. Besides, I'd say the top few students are actually not particularly advantaged compared to other subjects. Think about it this way: an aligned of 99 might get you a uac of 99.5 or so, but a 96 will also get pushed up...

    Beating the James Ruseans

I never said grammar doesnt focus on sport, I think it focuses too much on the elite. I couldnt really give a toss who wins the gps rugby or whatever. Our new principal is trying to get the focus back on academics, but I think there's resistance from the old boys quarter, similar to highs...

    Beating the James Ruseans

That's true, but plenty of other schools have extracurricular activities too, GPS doesn't really mean anything special. High's performance has dropped off in recent years (grammar too), and the new principal's focus on sport isnt promising.

    How much chemistry is enough?

From what you've said I think you know more than enough to study medicine. At unsw chemistry is only assumed knowledge anyway, so there are plenty of students who havent studied it at all and are doing fine. If you feel uncomfortable you could do a bridging course as a refresher, but I think...

    Probability Question - please help!

3 points to make a triangle, chosen from 9 possible points, so total number of possibilities is 9 choose 3 = 84. The number of triangles with a vertice in each sector is 5 * 3 * 1 = 15. so prob = 15/84. For the last one, for all points to be in one sector, they ccan be in sector 1 ( 5...

    sydney uni med offfers

That's not true, it's much easier than that to get a band 5 english and 99.95, and I know people who have. I also know people with very low 90s and no state rankings at all, and uai of 99.95.

    locus

Sorry I read it completely backwards. Rearrange the equation to make z the subject, and then repeat the method I used.
  12. S

    locus

    I'm a bit rusty, but here goes. x + iy / x + iy + 1 *( x + 1 - iy/ x + 1 – iy) = x^2 + x + iy + y^2/ (x+2)^2 + y^2 So as real part is 0, x^2 + x + 1/4 + y^2 = 1/4 So (x+1/2)^2 + y^2 = 1/4 Alternativey as it is imaginary, arg is pi/2 or -pi/2. So the locus is a circle with diameter from...

Question on locus!! NEED HELP! - Cambridge

For the question above, there's another way to find SP if you want. Drop perpendicular down to directrix, let the line be PM. PM = ap^2 + a = PS (definition of parabola)

how to solve tis one: mathematical induction

    ^ = to the power of Here's the induction proof: 5^n > 3^n +2^n Assume 5^k > 3^k +2^k For k+1, LHS = 5^k+1 = 5.5^k > 5(3^k + 2^k) = 5.3^k + 5.2^k > 3.3^k + 2.2^k = RHS The other proof is just through binomial expansion.

    Some binomials

    x - 1/x = 1 Cubing both sides, x^3 - 3x + 3/x - 1/x^3 = 1 so x^3 - 1/x^3 = 4

    Mechanics question

Forget horizontal and vertical. The normal force is always perpendicular to the surface on which it sits, whatever the situation. On the hemisphere, the surface is not horizontal, it is at an angle. For the table the surface just happens to be horizontal.
