    Second Year STAT

how difficult is 2nd year stats? I've pre-enrolled in both stats courses, but may change over to something else...I need my dose of maths, and dont want to screw around with matrices and vector calculus...plus stats is useful for any type of research i suppose.

    MATH1905 exam

You get given tables, similar to the ones at the back of primer. The tutor guy handed sample tables out during the last tute - theyre identical to the primer's tables...we get a normal table i think, as well as percentage point stuff for the t-statistic iirc.

well think of it in terms of the number of standard deviations away from the mean - thats all its saying - the probability of achieving a result at least "c" standard deviations away from the mean is less than 1/c^2

    Amphiprotic or Amphoteric

Amphoteric: able to act as an acid or base - this encompasses the Arrhenius, Lowry-Bronsted and Lewis definitions of the two. Amphiprotic: Able to act as an acid or base in the Lowry-Bronsted sense - ie able to donate or accept a proton. Amphiprotic substances thus form a small subset of...

    MATH 1903 Lectures

like House...wtf? Easdown is a brilliant lecturer, but I got bored with the amount of digression we had this semester - we spent more time on pacman, tori and fourier analysis than on examinable stuff...

distinguishing between alkanes and alkenes prac

well alkenes undergo addition and hardly ever substitutions, alkanes undergo substitutions and never additions. As far as alkane reactions go, there isnt a wide variety of commonly encountered reactions - mostly radical reactions. Alkenes have a much wider set of chemical reactions - oxidation...

    MATH 1903 Lectures

8am tends to not really have any clashes, whereas I suspect that 4pm lectures would involve clashes for many people - I have classes 4-5 on mondays, tuesdays and fridays, for example. Again, 4pm lectures can induce unnecessary gaps in timetables. I'm happy with 8-9. 'sif you ever turn up...
