Diff between Exm and Assessment Marks

Yeah; my English Adv exam mark was 89, with an assessment mark of 95 - which verifies my suspicion that I really did screw up Area of Study. My Maths exam mark was 88 though, with an assessment mark of 84, so my maths study during stu vac kind of paid off.

    invitation from USYD?

Are we sure the breakfast invites aren't for All-Rounders? [E.g. 10+ units in the top band?]

    law at usyd.....

I'd say that the Sydney cutoff is less likely to change than the UNSW one; the UNSW one has changed a lot over the last few years, while the Sydney one seems relatively stable...

    law at usyd.....

Just to clarify - I've heard it suggested that Sydney somehow "sets" the Combined Law cutoff at 99.6 - and only accepts UAIs above that [except for full-fee paying etc] - in order to maintain its prestigious reputation. I have no idea whether this is actually possible.

    invitation from USYD?

I felt very special as well...it arrived in my mailbox today; it's a personal invite to a breakfast before the Info Day for "high achieving students". I got 99.7, but I'm guessing that it's for people who got 10+ units in the top band....and I don't think it does have anything to do with our...

    EE2 Marks!

49 for internal and external for me as well, yay! Am disappointed/surprised that no one from my school got 50 [I was ranked first internally but was hoping one of my friends would get 50....]

    misadventure

I applied for and got misadventure for both Ancient and Modern History; after coming down with flu-like symptoms [e.g. aches and pains, sore throat, temperature] on the night before my Ancient exam, I then woke up the next morning and not only was in so much pain I couldn't move, but then...

    sci/law

Are you sure your UAI isn't high enough to qualify you for a 2nd round interview at UNSW? [If it's high enough to get you into Law at USyd, after all...] Also, according to one of my school science teachers, to get into graduate med, you're better off doing a science degree than anything else...

Ur UAI and the desired Course!

My UAI = 99.7 Desired course = UNSW Combined Law [either Arts/Law or International Studies/Law], 99.15 or USyd Arts/Law at 99.6. Still not sure which one I want yet, but at least I have the choice!

    Top in school

Hey, ktan, I know Ben White got one of those 99.95s, I'm guessing Michael Lee was the other one?? Well done to them both....who got the 99.9 though??

    Internet Use and UAIs

I chose other; I probably spent about 3 hours online a day doing non-study related stuff, for a UAI of 99.7.

    UAI without tutors?

I got 99.7; the only tutor I had was one I sporadically used for Chemistry when I accelerated it in 2004 and Maths this year....however, that's because I'm a humanities student who would probably not have done either subject if it'd really had a choice about it, and neither of those units...

All right, who'll be joining the ranks next year?

My first preference was Combined Law at UNSW, and I got 99.7. I'm at this stage tossing up between that and Arts/Law at Sydney....argh, decisions, decisions....however, I'm doing a GAP year in England next year anyway, so I'll be starting in 2007!

    English Extension 2 biased?

That is quite interesting though that you suggest a possible bias against critical works; the greatest disparity in marks that I know of from my school is a whopping 18 mark difference between the internal mark [47] and external mark [29] of one of my friends, who did a critical analysis. Other...

    law at usyd.....

I've heard that the USyd law cutoff has for the last few years been set artificially high - in order to maintain it's appearance as the most demanded, prestigious, hard to get into Law course in NSW....I'm not entirely sure if that's possible, however, but it certainly would make sense. It does...

    SMH: The top HSC schools

Hmmmmph.......what I don't understand is how Loreto Kirribilli and SCEGGS Darlinghurst managed to beat Abbotsleigh this year....still. We've done much, much better than last year [where, while our Dux got 100, the cohort as a whole sucked majorly]....

Who got screwed over by Ext2 English?

I was lucky with EE2; I was ranked first internally amongst a really good cohort at Abbotsleigh, and my MW included things I was reasonably sure the markers would like [anti-war views, postmodernism and the like]...and I'd like to think it was written reasonably well :) [I hope]. So I ended up...

99 UAI with band 5 english

Just to compare marks with all you science-y, maths-y type people [I don't understand you!!] My UAI = 99.7 [which I honestly thought was surprisingly and almost abnormally high, but hey, I'm not complaining!] My marks: Ancient History - 96 Economics - 96 English Advanced - 92 English...

    Top in school

The top mark that anyone knows from Abbotsleigh is 99.85 - but no one knows the UAI of our Dux, who came in the top 20 in the State for Biology and top 5 in Chemistry, as well as achieving in the top band in English Adv and Ext 1, Maths Ext 1 and Ext 2, Modern History, Biology and...
