Poincare conjecture solved

It was in the SMH 21/8/2006: http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/maths-genius-living-in-poverty/2006/08/20/1156012411120.html Perelman won a Fields medal yesterday but didn't go to Spain to get the medal. The Herald article says he can't afford to go to get the Fields medal. But this...

    Poincare conjecture solved

There's an article on it in today's Australian wherein it says Perelman might get a Fields Medal for it: http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,20155298-30417,00.html

    Extension 1 website

I made a new website today. It's http://www.angelfire.com/planet/threeunit Since it's so new there's not much there at the moment - only notes on e. But I plan to expand it soon.

    Extension 1 website

I was emailed today by someone wanting 3 unit resources. I made a website for resources: http://www4.tpgi.com.au/nanahcub/me1.html It's only got past HSC papers back to 1967 and the syllabus. But I'm going to put up other stuff soon. Probably notes. Not HSC answers. You can get the...

    Poincare conjecture solved

There's a good article on it with these new developments in the September issue of the AMS Notices at Jackson, A., Conjectures No More?: Consensus Forming on the Proofs of Poincaré and Geometrization Conjectures, Notices of the AMS, 53 (8), September, 2006, pp. 897-901...

    Don't you hate..

In other words, you only want familiar questions, not unfamiliar ones, i.e., you only want Component A questions, not Component B ones. Component B is in 2 unit/Ext 1 and Ext 2, not General Maths. So you should do General Maths instead. Component B isn't just about being harder. It's more about...

    Is this true??

I can see why you prefer a polar form instead of my Cartesian form. But you'd have to show more working and show your centre is conj(z2)/(|z2|2-r2) and radius r/||z2|2-r2|.

    Is this true??

    conj.(z1 + z2)/(|z1 + z2|) should be conj.(z1 + z2)/(|z1 + z2|2) Also, I reckon KFunk'd better write something about the circle not going through (0,0) because otherwise, you get a line, not a...

    help with a polynomial question

The 2nd edition of Patel's Foundations of 4 Unit Mathematics has as Exercise 5D, question 3b: If α, β, γ, δ are the roots of x4+x3+2x2+3x+4=0, evaluate αβ+αγ+αδ+βγ+βδ+γ&delta...

    Is this true??

    Lets look at an easier problem. Suppose 2x3-5x2+4x+6=0 has roots α, β, γ. Find an equation with roots 1/α, 1/β, 1/γ. Solution. Replace x with 1/x. ∴ 2/x3-5/x2+4/x+6=0. &there4...

    Don't you hate..

Good teachers put Component B questions in 2 Unit/Ext. 1 and Ext. 2 exams. Bad teachers don't.

    Don't you hate..

Sorry if the abruptness of my previous post seems insulting, but the thing Shady01 was complaining about is Component B. The only HSC maths course without Component B is General Maths. So I say again (and without trying to insult anyone) if you don't like Component B, do General Maths instead...
