BOW of 2009 : New Year, New Works :)

My teacher said great technical execution OR a great idea were good enough if the other criteria was adequate. So if they're really beautiful who cares if the idea isn't 'deep'?

    Romanticism

Hopefully you didn't take it at face value and write a love story. There's a lot of good descriptions on the net = hit the google. But it values nature, the sublime, the artistic individual, the power of the imagination and dreams, for starters.

    Japanese Extension

I thought they were just emphatic and removing a degree of politeness from the expression.. But I'm doing beginners so don't take my word for it. Did I get the trans right? Yubaba: Show this customer that's coming now to the big bath!

What are YOUR privileges for being a senior at YOUR school?

Well, our school is a piece of crap; small, stingy and underdeveloped. We do have a common room which is good only for its microwave as it's flooded. Our library consists of copies of religious texts and dictionaries and very little else... So no dedicated library space. We have jerseys...

Question for project - homosexuality in ancient greece

I think it's a good one, provided it's detailed. B) and C) seem to be better qs than A) - more historiographical. Just check that your teacher is a least a little bit liberal- I bet an anti-homosexual marker would bring their bias to the marking :mad1: Don't have any more advice because I don't...

    attention art 09er's

Get to the art gallery of NSW to see a) artexpress and b) half light: portraits from black australia- will be useful if you're drifting towards something political or photographic. It's a great exhibition. Re the impressionist paintings, did you see the Monet exhibition..? If you do something...

    Thoughts on Frankenstein/Bladerunner

Can't understand why everyone thinks Blade Runner is terrible- I thought it was great, despite the pacing jarring massively with the abrupt ending. Frankenstein is meh- just like Austen's Emma. Brave New World would be a way better book to study imo...

To drop or not to drop?

As above, don't drop it!! If it goes really wrong, it won't count anyway. LordPc's advice is good :)

    Japanese OHS enrolment issue

Agreed with cerys- I don't know if you can even do that course now...? And if you could, you'd have to do Continuers...? I don't know what I'm talking about. Do it in Year 11, it's easy.

How much have you written so far? Freaking a little.

I don't mean to be intimidating! :uhoh: Everybody works at a different rate- I have 4000 now but I probably won't write anymore for a month or two.. I may have seemed like I was boasting, but I'm sure not trying to- just wanted some more short story writers to talk to, because there's only one...

Can someone please explain to me what postmodernism is in simple terms??

no problem :) People you might want to research: Jacques Derrida (deconstructionist) Jean-Francois Lyotard (no metanarratives) Nietzsche Roland Barthes (death of the author) Hayden White (history as narrative) And for an amusing comment on how ridiculous postmodernism can be: BBC - h2g2 - The...
