Do you regret going/not going to Uni ?

To be fair, I think sometimes things can change for people and their are other factors that can lead to a change in degrees (which can be for the best). That being said, I do agree that changing degrees multiple times is largely a waste of time and money. With a lot of people I know who chop...

Do you regret going/not going to Uni ?

Even better, get your company to pay for it. That's the best idea I reckon.

Do you regret going/not going to Uni ?

Yes and no. It's good having a degree, but way overrated and not worth the money in my view. A lot of degrees outside the technical degrees (medicine, law, accounting, engineering etc) are becoming less and less valued on the market. Coming from someone in HR, what you're doing trumps a degree.

Is commerce at USYD or law at Macquarie more likely to lead to success?

This is really the golden question in my view. The degree you chose ultimately has to align with what you want to do. In terms of employment prospects, this is the fit era not the merit era. Decades ago, businesses selected candidates based on who had the best CV - now they look for best fit...

    Commerce Majors

To be honest, if you are intent on being an Accountant, Id just do a single major. Im very much of the view that when it comes to uni, just get what you need and go. Getting into the workplace as soon as possible I think is a much stronger solution - you can always pursue other avenues in the...

    Commerce Majors

Another question, why a double major? If you want to do CPA/CA, isnt Accounting enough?

    Motivating Students in Junior Years

Im going to offer a bit of a different opinion here. I met Wayne Bennett once a few years ago and he told me "You cant motivate the unmotivated". Having been a tutor for a number of years, I think this is very true. Motivation comes from within and ultimately, there is very little you can do...

    Devices for University

A key reason why I despise university - at $1500 a unit, you are a customer and have every right to complain and request more suitable standards.

I estimate my attendance to be around 20% and that's being generous.

    Devices for University

I wouldnt bother bringing a computer at all - I'd just bring a pen and paper. Truthfully, I didnt even bring that - I brought nothing to university for 3 years.

Re: Malek Fahd:Has until April before its funding runs out and students are forced to Unfortunately, this kind of thing is quite common, organisations dont take governance seriously and end up in situations like this one. Whenever you deal with government money and operate in a highly...

    Conflict in Europe: 'Blitzkrieg'

I think you're half correct in this post. Whilst it's true that blitzkrieg didn't exist as a formal doctrine, overall German tactics on an operation level were very similar. If you analyse the Case White, Case Yellow and even the opening stages of Operation Barbarossa, the Wehrmacht as a whole...

SMH article on HECS vs upfront

Totally agree, as much as it pains me to think of the money I wasted on uni, something I dont regret is doing HECS. I never saw the benefit of paying up front and looking at the amount deducted weekly from my paycheck, it is literally a small price to pay.

    Most prestigious degrees?

Definitely agree with this - you will find that a lot of the top firms concentrate their recruitment campaigns and university engagement at the bigger unis. This isnt due to prestige, but largely due to the huge talent pool these unis offer.

    Most prestigious degrees?

To actually answer the OP, I dont think there is a specific degree that is most likely to gain high income and job security. The key to having a high income and job security is down to the whole package. You need to know what you want out of your career and from there, what you need to do to...

    Most prestigious degrees?

First of all, customers rarely know or inquire about the qualifications of an organisation's staff. Secondly, within industry, it's certainly been my observations that degrees are no longer as valued as they once were. Excluding professions where degrees are mandatory (i.e. Law, Accounting...

    Most prestigious degrees?

I always get these type "scenarios" and honestly, they are just totally unrealistic. Two candidates never perform "equally well" in an interview, there are always subtle differences which an experienced HR professional and hiring manager should be able to discern for the purpose of making a...
