    Ekman's Compilation of MX2 Questions

Does anyone know where Ekman sourced some of his questions?

HSC 2017 MX2 Integration Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2017 MX2 Integration Marathon I'm sorry, but I'm slightly confused. For the HSC are we allowed to use methods other than that explicitly taught in the HSC for integration? Does this apply to other topics in math? Or is this a special case that your school is allowing?

    HSC 2017-2019 MX2 Marathon ADVANCED

    Re: HSC 2017 MX2 Marathon ADVANCED Note that (\cos\frac{\pi}{5}+i\sin\frac{\pi}{5})^5=-1. Consider z^5=-1 whose roots are z_1=cis\frac{\pi}{5}, z_2 = cis\frac{-\pi}{5}, z_3 = cis\frac{3\pi}{5}, z_4 = cis\frac{-3\pi}{5}, z_5 =-1. z^5 + 1 = (z+1)(z^4-z^3+z^2-z+1) = 0 Thus the roots of z^4 - z^3...

    Remembering Formulae for Conics

Hi, If we remember various formulae for conics such as the equations of tangents, ellipses, chords, and chords of contacts are we allowed to utilise them in the exam? I'm aware if the question specifically asked you to prove the equation for a tangent to an ellipse you can't simply state it...

Question about sum and products of trig functions

Is this a result we can use? I remember in the New Senior Maths textbook, during conics it said how these results are not included in the course.

    HSC 2017 MX2 Marathon (archive)

    Re: HSC 2017 MX2 Marathon A question posted in the 2016 MX2 marathon by Paradoxica that wasn't answered: \lim_{x \to 0} \frac{\sqrt{1- \cos x^2}}{1 - \cos x}

    Predicting HSC Questions?

Hi, I'm not sure if this applies to math (as it is "independent" from global events), but can you predict the likelihood of various topics being the last question in the exam (conics, mechanics, H3U etc.)? E.g. I know for economics people are able to predict (guess with great likelihood)...

    State Ranking

Ok, thanks. Where can you find the raw exam marks needed to be achieved to obtain the various bands for different HSC subjects across the years?

    State Ranking

But your internal marks themselves don't matter?

    State Ranking

So if an individual gets 100% raw mark in an exam they are guaranteed first in the state?

    State Ranking

Hi, When it comes to students who achieve state ranks and/or first in the state for their subject is it solely dependent on their raw HSC exam result? Or are there other factors that are taken into account? Thanks

Would you guys recommend the technique of doing questions from just one textbook and then doing past paper questions only?

    Balancing Study Time

Hi, How do you decide the amount of study time to allocate to each subject? The current "ratios" of study I've got planned are Physics (17%), Chemistry (17%), English (14%), Mathematics Extension 1 (Inclusive of 2 unit) (17%), Mathematics Extension 2 (31%) and Economics (3%) (I'm thinning of...

    Suitable method for Induction

Ok, though if I just used the graphical method would it still be ok (For the HSC)?

    Suitable method for Induction

Hi, Is the following a suitable method for induction? (For the purpose of brevity, I'm going to skip the testing and the conclusion) \text{Prove by Mathematical Induction for n is an integer and greater than or equal to 4 that, } 2^n \geq n^2 \\ \text{Assume statement is true for } n=k \\...

    E naught or E theta?

Hi, For electrochemistry in the production of materials topic, I've been told that for the cell voltage it is E^theta. But other resources that I've found state it to be E^0. Which one is it? Thanks

    Integration question?

If it asks you to find the area you must take the absolute value of the area if it is negative. However, if it asks you to evaluate an integral (such as in the above question) which is not the same as asking for the area, you must sum the "areas" (inclusive of negative ones) i.e. you just add...
