Hmm, most of my classes have random or weekly quizzes, which amounts to the same thing really, only it's alot easier to fudge your way through.

Maybe I'm missing something, but being a lecturer would be alot easier than being a teacher. Teachers actually have to teach students, lecturers just spit out information for however many hours a day. Very different methods of "teaching" with the lecturer being able to rely much more on students...

Yes, science courses (generally) have more contact hours than commerce. Although the extra time is spent doing lab work as far as I can tell. Whether or not that is a negative is up to you. I find I can go over lecture material in about 1/3 the time it takes in a lecture if I sit down and do it...
