    Section 2

Same here. I used the quote twice throughout my story and I also threw in a couple of words like "broken" and "fragments" here and there. I wrote exactly 7 pages in 30 mins. I'm quite happy about my story.

    Isomers

What level of maths do you do? It probably won't make sense when I say you can arrange the chlorine atoms using permutation unless you do at least MX1. If you have to maths to help you, try it for yourself, although I won't guarantee that it to be any easier than drawing out all the different...

gaseous forms of oxygen & the oxygen free radical

Thanks for your input! However, I think this response addresses the previous dot point - Syllabus 9.4 4K6: Compare the properties of oxygen allotropes O2 and O3. Account for them on the basis of molecular structure and bonding. There are numerous chemical and physical properties to compare...

Hahaha. I thought that was the case. :-P

    Locus question

This question is to be solved by exactly the same principle as when P is equidistant from A and B. The conditions have simply changed to PA = 2PB rather than PA = PB.

    Induction Q

I still think it's a dodgy question. The nth term of the LHS series is clearly defined by T(n) = (2n + 1)², but 2² doesn't fit in anywhere if n is an integer...

    Induction Q

    The first thing I noticed is that there seems to be something wrong with the LHS series. Σ(2r + 1)² [from r = 0 -> r = n] should be 1² + 3² + 5² + ... + (2n + 1)². Judging by the first three terms shown, the series is actually Σn² [from r = 0 -> r = n] and the last term should be n². Was...

    Curve sketching practice questions?

There's not a great lot of that out there. I suppose you could always draw a crazy convoluted squiggle yourself and then do graphs of [f(x)]², [f(x)]³, √f(x), 1/f(x), ln[f(x)], etc. :) If you want to check your answers, then it might be better to start off with a known function and then...

    Parabolic question

    Should have looked a bit further up. ;-) Simple transfer error, I presume. BX = |x - y - 2|/√2 BX² = (x² + y² +4 - 2xy - 4x + 4y)/2 Jiggle things around and get x² + 8x + y² - 8y + 2xy = 0, which is (x + 4)² + (y - 4)² + 2xy = 32 if you prefer. The strange thing, though, is that (x + 4)²...

    maths question

    Let y = 0 to solve for the x-intercepts of the circle. .: A is (±4, 0) Now let B(h, k) be a point on the circle, so that AB forms a chord. Let M be the midpoint of AB. .: M is [(h ± 4)/2, k/2] i.e. The locus of M is defined by this set of parametric equations: x = (h ± 4)/2 ...(1)...

how much study are you doing a day?

See, I had no idea how little I studied until I recently started to keep a log book of what I was doing and how long I spent doing it. It turns out that, on average, I'm now barely pulling off 2-3 hours of study per day. I feel rather shameful, to be honest, that I've let myself loose when I...

gaseous forms of oxygen & the oxygen free radical

I guess chemical reactivity is the only property to compare here. I'm just a bit worried because the syllabus uses plural "propertIES", which leads me to think that there should be at least one other property. Do you think a comparison based on structure & hence chemical reactivity would be...

gaseous forms of oxygen & the oxygen free radical

Syllabus 9.4 4K7: Compare the properties of gaseous forms of oxygen and the oxygen free radical. I don't suppose it's possible to compare these in terms of melting/boiling points, solubility, density, etc. which can be done between allotropes of oxygen. So what other properties are there to...

Since my principal was crazy enough to give me 98-100, that means my UMAT might be under 151, eh? Can't wait 'til Thursday. LOL.

    2 Questions

    Q1. I think since |x - 3| is positive, it's safe to say |x - 3| < 2 Then x - 3 < 2 or - (x - 3) < 2 .: 1 < x < 5, x =/= 3. Can't think of a way to solve Q2 at the moment.
