From previous experience, you only need an email from the unit co-ordinator for the subject that you want to do. It might have changed since last year though.

The snail mail system works by: if the assignment is due on Friday, it must be in the post by 5pm on Friday. Its pretty reliable. My first assignment managed to get from Armidale to Sydney over the weekend. And it didn't get lost.
