"Oxides of non-metals will react with water to form acids, and will react with bases to form salts." "Oxides of metals are basic and oxides of non-metals are acidic. Since metals are on the left-hand side of the periodic table and non-metals on the right, then the elements from the left-hand...

    The Ranking of Ye School.

I wouldn't know from experience - my school was ranked around 20th, so not bad, but not great - but there have been people who went to poorly-ranked schools, topped everything, and didn't even reach 85. While I can't comment on your school (I'm sure it's not a major problem as Captain Gh3y...

    Truth or Lies?

You can tell by the way she reacted that she has something to hide. For fuck's sake, it's a blog. You don't write in your online blog, make it public, and expect people (let alone friends) to keep out. If she wanted it to be private she could have chosen not to publish the entries. So what she...

    condensation and addition polymers

PVC is addition and cellulose is condensation, so you can't really choose one or the other - you need both. Also, PVC, polystyrene and ethylene are the additional polymers you are required to know. You are also required to know cellulose, although to a smaller extent - i.e. no...

    Buffers

The equilibrium converts carbon dioxide to carbonic acid, so removing carbon dioxide by blowing air into a balloon will push the equilibrium to the left, producing more carbon dioxide and hence reducing the concentration of carbonc acid - i.e. reducing the concentration of H+.

It's usually cellulose. Although you can choose to do something else. Nylon isn't too bad either.

    Relationships & HSC

Re: do u think a relationship will interfere with you hsc? I've been going out with my boyfriend since the beginning of year 11, and I turned out fine. As long as you have your priorities sorted, your relationship would aid you instead of distract you. Abstaining from the opposite sex is...

    Water quality - Part 1

This is because you are trying to determine the sulfate content in fertiliser. Sulfuric acid will ionise in solution to form hydronium ions and sulfate ions. The latter will add to the concentration of sulfates already in the fertiliser, making your results invalid. Ba2+(aq) + SO42-(aq) → BaSO4(s)

    Historical development of acids

Do you use a textbook? It should all be in the Changing Concepts part of the Acidic Environment. I'll give you the information but I've always found that if you look things up yourself, you would usually remember them better. Lavoisier proposed that acids were substances that contained...

Just want to confirm something about tiration

It doesn't actually matter because you end up with the same information - the volume used for each solution, and the concentration of one of them. Technically though, the solution of known concentration goes in the burette.

Just want to confirm something about tiration

I'm sure. Burettes are made from glass, so if you can't use acids in burettes, you can't use them in pipettes or conical flasks either - unless you're talking about the tap thing at the bottom. But again, we had acid in the burette at the titration comp.

    Biopolymers ???

I strongly suggest you against using DNA in the actual HSC exam though. It would be hard to write about properties and uses, especially potential uses and why its biodegradability is so significant. The markers will just assume you've got the wrong idea about biopolymers.

Just want to confirm something about tiration

C1V1 = C2V2 works only if the molar ratio of acid to base is 1:1. If the ratio is a:b, then your formula would read: C1V1/C2V2 = a/b ("a" being 1 and "b" being 2)
