do people actually fail exams ?

One of my mates thinks that. He believes that so long as he is not in the bottom 20% of the course he'll pass. I can't see this as being true as subjects are marked to a standard, either you achieve, or better the standard and get a pass or higher or you don't meet the standard and fail. In...

    Textbooks &What to bring

Uni is not like school. 2. The lecturer doesn't care if you have the textbook or not. You do not have to buy it. It's recommended that you do, but if you don't it's not big drama. 3. Notepad and pen. That is all you'll ever need.

    wondering..

UAC assigns the university places based on the UAI, which is a rank. Your marks are used to calculate your UAI. Most university course places are awarded on UAI alone, however some courses (like creative arts) may require you to submit a sample of your work/attend an interview etc.

    UOW 2009 Roll Call

Commerce isn't really maths based, especially if you major in marketing. You'll have to do a little bit of stats. But if you can add and subtract you'll be fine.

Who is coming to UOW Orientation week

Classes for the session? If so then follow Exphate's post above. If you're talking about O Week, then there isn't exactly classes. Most faculties have some form of welcome, usually in the form of a 1 hour lecture taken followed by a BBQ or something similar. All the info on these activities...

Would you trade your HECS debt for a volunteer Youth Corps?

That is what I was thinking. HECS become payable at around 39K or $21.4* per hour. Thus this isn't an attractive option to somebody rational if we are just considering the monetary side of this policy because they can earn more per hour by working or they are under the threshold and don't have...

Would you trade your HECS debt for a volunteer Youth Corps?

My participation would depend on how much debt was cleared every hour. If 1 hour of volunteering cleared $15 of debt then it wouldn't be worth it because you can easily earn more than that by working for that hour and using the money to pay the debt. It's a good idea is theory, but this may...

procedure to take 5 subjects during a semester...?

I'm at UOW so things may be different at UTS. We can do 5 subjects without approval. Just enrol as normal. To do 6+ needs academic approval (i.e. signed off by sub dean). UTS would be similar.

    civil engineering contact hours

. It's because of the nature of the course. In fact as class size gets smaller in later years (due to electives etc) the timetable gets worse (in terms of breaks etc) because bigger subjects get priority.

    Math187/ Math141?

Do MATH141/142. Its virtually the same as 187/188 but you don't have to memorise any formulas because you get to make your own formula sheet. Plus in most cases 142/187 students end up doing the same second year maths subjects so it's not as if you will be 'behind' by doing 142. The only major...
