No, might just mean that your teachers are very easy markers. Basically, you determine your own mark in the exam if you get 1st rank in your subjects.

It's not directly a give/take thing when it comes to moderation. They do take into account the gaps between the ranks, so they would take the highest and lowest HSC exam marks, assign them to first and last respectively, then alter the marks in the middle to take account of the gaps inbetween...
