good mate, welcome aboard enjoy drinks at the argyle? I was there doing the hardsell on assurance - TCE kids that hadn't signed the contract yet...managed to convince at least one (or so they promised..!)

...if you go and get a job in commerce! your salary will remain the same CA or not, at every level (unfortunately)

Big 4 Accounting Firms Internships 2008

Level 33? yay I'll crash for some free beer :) Word on the street says $48k package (at EY, incl. super). Probably higher when they do their mid year review in January

    PwC or EY...

choose EY, cause our building is taller (in Sydney) and PwC's sign is still burnt ! :p

Big 4 Accounting Firms Internships 2008

Congrats to all successful applicants :) Huy - chances are good, unless you really screw up and don't show enthusiasm to learn during your intership, you'll be offered to come back as a grad. Anyone get offered EY Assurance? Might get to work with one or two of you next year

    CPA or Big 4

Suvat - yes and no, its still dependent on your role at work (i.e. the management accounting module is virtually useless for me as an auditor). fatbastard - Agree, in some modules more than others, it feels as if the ICAA are trying to constantly trick you, and that the "harder" exam questions...

Why does everyone major in accounting?

It has its downs (such as now...as its "busy" season when all 30 June year-end companies need to be audited), which means working longer hours, however, yes I do enjoy it most of the time. In terms of being intense..it does vary - some clients are small, and as such we have tighter budgets and...

    CPA or Big 4

No verbal assessments per se, it's more like participation marks at focus sessions (seminars similar to tutorials) As an aside I think the CA program is absolute crap, it has caused me many sleepless nights (for which I never experienced during uni), but I guess the qualification at the end...

Don't Apply For A Job A Job At Pkf!

Re: Don't Apply For A Job At Pkf! lol what the hell? that is so unprofessional, especially to a prospective employee.. what is an HR person interviewing you or a manager/partner of the firm?

    Taxation Law HELPPPPP

Hmm, well it's a lot of applying the tax law to facts, so its quite practical in that sense.

Why does everyone major in accounting?

Yeah I'll put my hand and say yep I thought I'd never do accounting, ever, when I first started at uni...and at the end of first year I transferred from economics to commerce majoring in accounting! Fast forward a few years and I've been working at EY as an auditor for over 2 years and as...

    big 4 cadetships

Agree with Vagabond on his earlier post - once you are in, it's much easier to move across divisions here at EY. Partners know that its in their best interests to keep you in the firm, so they will support you moving across into business advisory, tax etc after you've done your 2 years in audit...

    Accounting Cadetship 2008

For your E&Y application, make sure you nail that initial application (i.e. include as much extra-curricular, leadership, part-time work etc as you can). Because EY only have the one assessment centre before they start offering, they can be more critical/anal with your initial application

PwC or EY for tax consulting?

I don't have any advice on tax specifically, but on a firm as a whole, the best way is to go to where you would feel most comfortable working at (considering pay and client base is similar). If your gut feeling says EY would be a better place to work, then go with that ;) And its not the end of...

how hard is it to get distinctions in first year commerce?

I don't think intelligence has all too much to do with it (you'd have to be reasonably intelligent to get into Commerce in the first place). The key is to get through by studying hard in week or two leading up to the midsems/ final exams and good cramming techniques (worked for me)

    Who started BoS?

Hi WW, I was "modded" in Dec 2002 (yeah long time ago), and the site (as we know it) started about 6 July 2002. It's almost the 6 year anniversary

Will a Commerce/Law degree satisfy the requirements for the CA?

http://www.charteredaccountants.com.au/files/documents/2007_ATC_List.pdf There's a link to the CA required subjects per university - Comm/Law at whichever uni should be listed.

Question About Double Major In Accouting + Finance

Make sure you know exactly which subjects are required. You can find the current "required" subjects at the CA/CPA websites respectively. This is important because at UNSW, you'll have to do some Business Law subjects that are not automatically part of an Accounting major.

    B.Economics - choosing courses/subjects for ICAA requirements

As drmix said, you'll find that most of the compulsory subjects for an accounting or finance major are part of the prequisites for enrolling in the CA/CPA programs, so its not like you have to do many extra subjects, I think it's just the Info Sys one for CPA
