Can you do Ext English in Yr 12 without doing in Yr 11?

You can't take HSC English Extension 1 in Yr 12 unless you've completed the Preliminary Extension 1 course in Yr 11. The Extension courses don't give you better scaling for the corresponding 2U courses, but you might find it easier to learn some of the material.

    Hurry up already...

You can ask them whatever you want. :) They'll tell you if something is too much (but you'd have to go pretty far to reach that stage, I think).

    Meissner Effect

You're all right... In any normal material, the eddy currents would dissipate after the motion stops, because they encounter resistance in the materal. This removes the repulsive magnetic field. In a superconductor, there is (essentially) no resistance, and so the eddy currents continue...

    Randomness

I don't really know. We're not allowed to actively encourage you to click the advertisements. Presumably, Google has ways of guessing whether a click was 'genuine' or not. I'd suggest just acting as though you were a casual user - which is what you are. :)

    Randomness

Hopefully the Google ads will help us out a little. :) They're meant to be targeted at the content of each thread... I think they're still 'adjusting' to our forums. I can't remember how much we earn, but I don't think it's very much. Nevertheless, maybe it will help.

Proving maximum/minimum points - shortcut methods?

Yes. :) But notice that they've also written a concluding statement - "therefore maximum occurs at x = blah". Do that too, as it demonstrates that you actually know what the table means.

Board Of Studies reveals raw marks - 2003

A raw mark of 70 could be aligned to 50, yes, but it wouldn't be because you performed poorly relative to the majority of the candidature. Marks are aligned in accordance with course standards - not how anyone else has performed.

    raw marks for 4u

For several years, yes, but I don't believe it has been done since the advent of the new HSC - no raw stats since before 2001. And, naturally I'd want to exploit the same source... it would obviously be one that I've missed somewhere along the line. :) I was mainly curious as to whether you...

    Kingsford Legal Centre

I have a few friends that are doing it, and they said it's pretty much exactly like the show. (But you can choose to take on more or less work if you want.) I intend to do it either next year or the year after. :) Looks like a great experience.

    Distinguished achievers list

The first one was made by Joel Nothman (used to run hscstuff.cjb.net - our predecessor). I made the second, and Huy made the third. I wrote a program to parse the pages that are on the Board's site and collate the information for me, but I think the others did it manually.

    uai mindfuck

Even though it is your raw marks that are scaled, and not your aligned marks, no statistics have been released regarding raw marks. This means that we can't use raw marks to determine scaled marks. Each year, a report is produced by the Technical Committee on Scaling, and UAC publishes in...

    Distinguished achievers list

We created Excel spreadsheets of the lists some time ago: 2001 (753kb) 2002 (1.5mb) 2003 (1.4mb) Makes searching much easier. :)

Whats the difference between 4UA and 4UC ?

I really wouldn't recommend using the LazSeeker program anymore - it's very outdated. That's why we created SAM. :)

    Gettin a band 6 in maths :(

It won't always be that way. That was just the cut-off for the 2001 paper. The others could vary significantly. We have no idea.

    Some more questions about carelessness

So long as your transcription error doesn't make the question any easier, you shouldn't lose marks.

    raw mark for E4?

Yes, that is possible - it depends on where they set the band E3/E4 cut-off.

    Band 5/6 & Exemplar etc.

It means they scored a raw mark at the Band 5/6 cut-off for that particular question. In most cases, this mark won't actually be 90% (because it's a raw mark, not aligned), but it's more useful to think of it as though it were worth an aligned mark of 90. Exemplar responses occurred where...
