    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

Do we have to know specific sources of information ??
  2. Q

    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

How much do we have to know about the ozone hole at Antarctica during Spring e.g. its cause? I don't see any reference to it in the syllabus but all textbooks go into it...
  3. Q

    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

Nice. So is CFC's a subset of halons?
  4. Q

    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

There's a dotpoint about analysing information indicating changes in atmospheric ozone concentrations and describing the changes. Obviously there is a clear decrease in ozone concentration during the use of CFC's and stuff, but what is the general consensus today? (This relates to evaluate the...

    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

I don't think halons were considered as replacements for CFC's... I only know they were used in fire extinguishers :S And also they have significantly higher ozone depleting potentials as f16 called out
  6. Q

    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

Why not? I'm pretty sure we put gaseous state on all of them
  7. Q

    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

Another quick Q: What is the significance of halons in the syllabus? Would you talk about them in an extended response? (I've only seen the discussion of CFC's, HCFC's and HFC's) Anyone have questions relating to halons?
  8. Q

    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

    I learnt - Formation of ozone: O2 + UV --> 2O. O2 + O. --> O3 - Destruction of ozone: O3 + UV --> O2 + O. O3 + O. --> 2O2 Both involve absorbing UV hence ozone is a UV radiation shield. A relevant Q: Are we meant to put states on these!!??
  9. Q

    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

What equations do you use to show ozone acting as a UV shield in stratosphere? My notes has 4 equations (2 for formation of ozone, 2 for destruction of ozone) which seems too much to write in an exam
  10. Q

    Eddy Currents Induction Cooktop

I'm still not convinced. The formula you supplied I've seen only apply to transmission lines (unless you have a source that says otherwise). Using HSC understanding, even if eddy current size increases with decreased electrical resistance, the rate at which that electrical energy is converted...

    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

How is photochemical smog formed and what does it consists of? - Toxic, brown haze mixture consisting of ozone, NOx and VOCs formed by action of sunlight on pollutants (NOx and VOCs) - (Insert equation for formation of ozone from NO2) Is this correct? Or should I say NO2 and VOCs instead of...

You guys sleep later than me AND wake up earlier. Awks. What am I doing with my life
  13. Q

    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

goodnight friends. i will hibernate now
  14. Q

    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

Is this depth even needed? (My teacher warned me before about overreaching depth) I believe it is sufficient to say elements have characteristic wavelengths of light which they can absorb/emit.
  15. Q

    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

In AAS, the hollow cathode lamp is made with the metal being analysed. Is this validity or accuracy?
  16. Q

    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

Simple version is that N2 is sourced from air via chemical filtration (air passed through chemicals such that O2, etc. is removed) and CO2 is sourced by methane + steam --> CO + H2 (the CO undergoes a further catalytic conversion to CO2). Jacaranda says its expensive (implying lacking economic...
  17. Q

    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

Yeah but its weird how all textbooks go into it :{ Probably should know it as extra info to cover grounds
  18. Q

    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

Okay I will answer the next Q someone posts. But I ask my own Q's because I'm not too sure myself so please :P

    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

Anyone can answer bold? Another Q: Describe how hydrogen and nitrogen gas is obtained for the Haber Process (3)
  20. Q

    Predictions for Chemistry 2014 HSC?

Nice, just looked at it. But I'm more worried about like 7 marker Q's lol. Also, what does a polymer chemist have to do with colloids and surface coatings wtf that doesn't sound like polymers T_T
