PHYSICS y have you gotten this way?

I've just come to accept it. Yeah it sucks, but the syllabus is pretty easy so just learn it and kill the exam. If you need the stimulation of higher order physics then do as I do and look to university texts. Problem solved...kinda...

Who knows what they wanna do after HSC?

Well, I'm hoping to enter the medical profession and become a doctor so naturally the kind of UAI I have to shoot for is in the high 90's. This year is going to be a long haul... I also plan to be 'discovered for my "talents" ' as a bass player when I join a funk-rock band and our first album...

How the f-ck do u do this question

This is just me being unecesarily picky but where you were writing 'respectfully' did you mean to use respectively as in: 'in the order mentioned '? I just haven't seen/heard respectfully used like that unless you were intending to make it a very polite proof :P.

    Diagram on Eddy Currents

I don't think you would really use the right hand palm rule here (assuming that we're talking about the same thing) since that applies more to the force a current carrying object or moving charged particle experiences in a magnetic field. I was using the right hand screw rule to work out the...

    quick question (complex numbers)

That'd be correct, cause the only time when the imaginary component of a complex number is completely equal to its modulus is when the number is purely imaginary i.e when it sits on the y-axis where x=0.

    harder applicxation of newtons law

If you're not happy with an answer that someone gives you then you could at least say that in the same thread ;) rather than cluttering the forum http://www.boredofstudies.org/community/showthread.php?t=64032

    Polynomials question!

From the factor theorem we know that if P(γ )=0 i.e if we sub in γ for x then P(x) reduces to zero then we know that (x-γ ) is a factor of P(x) so that P(x) can be expressed as: P(x) = (x - γ ).Q(x) since we know that 5 is s single zero i.e P(5)=0 ------> (x-5)...

    Complex number question stuck

    for iii) if a and b are real then the conjugate of p is also a root. (i'm assuming that you intended a plus sign, not an equals) Then you could use (x - p)(x - pconjugate)=(x2 + 2Re(p)x + |p|2) which yields: a = 2.[cos(2π/7)] b=...

    Polynomials question!

It's monic so you know that the leading coeficient is 1. Hence the factors are going to be in the form (x - r) [ok... so you could have (1/2x - r)(2x-q) but we'll ignore that for simplicity's sake] You can pretty much assume that the P(x) = (x - 5)(x + 2)(x + 2) since 5 is a single zero...

    Van Allen Radiation Belts

At its most rudimentary it f**ks them up. Radiowaves aren't very good at getting through areas full of charged/ionised particles and the kind of communications blackout you would get during magnetic storms or high sunspot activity make the van allen belts a bit of a no go zone for satellites...

    help with frictional forces

I havn't really worked with resistive force before but I'll give it a shot. Assuming that the deceleration was constant we can use: v2=u2 + 2as to work out the deceleration (since v=0 and a is negative) a = u2/2s = 25/6 = 4 1/6 ms-2 apposing the...

    Half-Yearly Study Thread

    Time to reach max height = 29.4/9.8 = 3 seconds Max height: S = ut + 1/2at2 = 29.4*3 - 1/2*9.8*9 =44.1 meters. Therefore distance to ground = 44.1 + 78.4 = 122.5m Velocity at base of cliff = √(2*9.8*122.5)= 49ms-1 (from v2 = u2 +...

    Diagram on Eddy Currents

Think of a space probe 7 type amusement ride where a compartment with people in it drops from a great height and slows to a halt at the bottom. What you have in these rides is a metal plate of low electrical resistance (eg. copper) behind the compartment. As the compartment slips down the tower...
