Just got mine this afternoon. Positives: Kept my two firsts + another subject. Jumped up 30 ranks in English. Negatives: Down by 3 ranks in one subject, 15 in another.

Most only aim to get you to a band 3-4 due to their brevity. Textbooks are much better. However, you may find them to be helpful if they are used for getting a feel of the subject before your class discusses it or as a quick review.

I have never pre-writen an essay for a humanities subject and my scores for extended response questions would average at 19/20. That's not be brag but to support a point. However, in the past I have found social sciences ER questions pretty easy to guess. At my school, they tend to follow this...

If you do 12 units: there's a safety net. 10 units: you have more time to focus on the subjects you chose to do, putting you at a slight advantage compared to students doing 10+ units. Statistically your teacher is right. But a lot of people who complete the HSC have a "don't give a damn"...
