    Combination

Thanks for the link to the stripes and bars, the wiki article is way too complicated for me, but I think I get the gist of it. a) 9 stripes (identical) + (4-1) bars (identical), so: 12! / 9!3! <- dividing out the identical elements) b) I didn't get this initially, but the explanation above...

    COmbinations

still not 100% satisfied, so one last attempt: A B C D E F G H I Let's say those are the 9 guys, with A and B not to be on the same team. Let's consider 9 cases, where each of 9 will be refs, then add all these 9 cases at the end. The reason i'm attempting this is because the 9th guy is...

    making notes

syllabus dot point based notes is the way to go. the textbook can really go into unnecessary depth. to find out when it's going into unnecessary depth, compare business studies in action textbook with other textbooks and then make your notes.

Any tips on improving marks in 3U?

time management. start all your assignments on the day you get them. aim to finish them off 1-2 weeks early. do minimum 1 hour of maths every night without fail. only if you're finding it unbearably hard. if you can work harder and practise, do so. HORRIBLY WILD ESTIMATE: if your papers are...

this is a 4unit hsc question (1981). but, it could feasibly pop up, i guess? a question similar to this is in the New Senior Maths (fitzpatrick) book - q 30, chapter 3.4 - (In how many ways can eight basketball players be divided into four groups of two?) anyways, SupR is right - you...

    Venn diagram

ok, step 7 was bugging me last night as I was trying to sleep - trial and error was wrong there. since 9 played cricket and 9 played basketball, and 13 all up, we see that 9+9 = 18 - but it can't be 18 because there should be 13. 18-13 = 5, which is the overlapping number between those 2...

    The Anime Thread

haha, after you watch anime for a while, you end up not liking the action anime (aka shonen anime) that much, simply because of all the repetition. that's what happened to me anyway.

    The Anime Thread

zzz over-rated imo. also, it started last season - i dropped it after 5ish eps iirc. loving the new full metal panic! if it's even 50% as good as the originals, it'll be the best mecha series in a while imo. mixed feelings about the new SAO. Megalo Boxing seems to be rushing a bit too much...

Usul Al Fiqh Application in 21st Century

How do i get better at Circle Geometry?

answering op: 1. memorise theorems. 2. draw diagram of question. 3. angle hunt. 4. after you've reached the angle you want, look through your angle hunt and find the most efficient "route" to get to your final answer. what steps did you take to reach the end? 5. write down those steps, then...

Is it possible to score a band 6 with Standard Mathematics?

past paper questions for vast majority of the course are still relevant and valuable. even without past paper questions, if you can do all your textbook questions, and are constantly revising them, you're heading towards a band 6.
