Do we read Frankenstein as a warning of the dangers of 21st century science?

Well, do we? And is it more so of a warning than in the 19th century? (Consider cloning, abortion, postmodern values etc.)

english not counting in final uai...

But there's still hope if you do 4U English. Since 2U is probably the hardest course of the three (this is my personal opinion), it's not uncommon to do better in your extension units in English.

    Romanticism

Unfortunately the Board of Studies isn't so inclined to agree with my own subjective opinions. Then again, I don't really understand Romanticism at all. What's the point of dedicating an entire year to studying irrationality? No, I'm joking.. kind of. I just don't get what all the rage is...

    Beginners languages and scaling

How does that work, though? Is it because the students who do Spanish Beginners generally perform better in other subjects than in Spanish Continuers? I think that's how the scaling system goes, though this particular example with Spanish doesn't make too much sense.

Short Story - The Last Person on Earth (what would YOU do? - Post Here!)

To be honest I'd probably off myself. It's not a big deal, but what's the point in living if you're the last person on earth? (Assuming you know that you will, always and forever, be the last person on earth).

    Extension Two Day

Yes. It was useful in that it allowed me to come to the realisation that I'm fucked. Unfortunately I missed the Reflection Statement lecture. Was it useful?

Women boozing is not sexually attractive to men

Wow, now I completely understand that my alcoholic tendencies scare all my potential boyfriends away.

    Yeats philosophy on life

Writing about someone's philosophy in life would take up more than a few sentences! Read through his poems and think about it. Yeats believed in fate and the concept of pre-destiny. This is shown in 'When You are Old', 'An Irish Airman Foresees his Death' and 'The Second Coming'.

    Yeats -- arrghh!

I have an English exam in a couple of days, and we're required to write an essay on Yeats. So, for those of you who are studying Yeats, what is/are your favourite poem(s)? What essay questions have you done for it (if any)?

    Beginners languages and scaling

Do Beginners languages scale well for the HSC? (I know this has nothing to do with Spanish, but I am doing Spanish Beginners for the HSC, so thought I'd post it here).

Learning Verbs - tips and tricks

Buy a dictionary that has tables of the most common verb conjugations in the back. (Seriously -- and you are allowed to bring it with you in the exam).

    Romanticism

We were asked to pick our module and chose Romanticism. We're doing Keats, Coleridge and Wuthering Heights. If anyone's stuck for extra texts, consider 'Faust' (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe) -- it's fantastic and very Romantic. Although it's quite hard to read, it will give you an advantage if...

    Existentialism - After the Bomb

Waiting for Godot is more about Absurdism. Absurdism highlights the monotony of human labour and questions the irrational nature of fate. It branched out of Existentialism, but isn't quite the same. I'm not studying 'After the Bomb' for EE1, but when you think about Existentialism in relation...

Music 2 Performance Elective -- freaking out

Grade 7? I've never done an AMEB exam for classical guitar but I think one of the Houghton pieces might be grade 8. What pieces have you chosen to perform? (and on what instrument?)

    Extension 2 dance

You people are terrible. Just because you don't have a creative bone in your body, doesn't mean you should attempt to degrade the esteems of those more talented than you. Appreciate other people's passions the same way they appreciate your math/science/whatever. And if passion isn't one of your...

Belonging - any ideas for belonging texts? Movies, novels???

Belonging? I'm sorry, but have you ever heard of an Area of Study more rediculous than "Belonging"? What were you thinking, BoS? But in all seriousness, if you're stuck for extra texts, read 'Infidel: My Life' by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. In short, it's about a Muslim woman's assimilation into Western...

    Romanticism

No, I realise that Romanticism isn't about being "romantic". I've also read that Romanticism values nature, the sublime, the artistic individual, the power of the imagination and the subjective. I've read everything on the net about definitions of Romanticism, but this is all textbook stuff. I'm...

Diploma of Music (practical) at Melbourne

Hi, I'm from Sydney but I've been looking at going to Melbourne Uni for arts. I'm also very interested in the Diploma of Music (practical) course they offer which isn't offered at Sydney. I was just wondering, for anyone out there planning to do or already doing this course, what's the...

Music 2 Performance Elective -- freaking out

I've chosen this elective because I've already chosen to do musicology for ext. and compositions stress me out too much. But I have no idea what the standard is like at all. I go to a very small school that places little emphasis on the HSC so I'm kind of sheltered from the reign of terror that...

    Extension Musicology

I'm doing this course and I'm panicking already! I'm quite new to the music course, having only picked it up in yr 10, and the only thing that drives me is passion. At the moment I'm doing research into Shostakovich and Soviet music, but I don't know where to go from there. I just don't know...
