    Trials + Other Assessments

I've got MX1 which I'm not worried about (tried a past paper on saturday after not touching the topics for ~3 weeks and the only mark i lost was forgetting to put a +C) and english on thursday, which I'm basically screwed for. Then MX2 next tuesday (which I'm not overly worried about) but then...

    Volumes question

So... you did that in your head? That's quite impressive. Anyway, I got that too.

    transit of venus

You can project the image of the sun onto a piece of paper or something, either using a telescope, binoculours or a piece of cardboard with a pinhole in it (although this might not give you sufficient resolution to actually see the shadow of venus, it'll be pretty damn small)

    transit of venus

Rainy and cloudy in sydney. Can't see it clearing up by tomorrow. WHY?!?! :'( Sure, I can watch a live feed, but it's just not the same!

Difficult 2u integration of exponentials - HELP please

Nope, it's actually a pretty simple integral once you know what you're doing - it just looks really nasty That's how you do it.

Sum and Products of roots anyone?

Pretty sure it's the positive solution, since \alpha+\beta >0 EDIT: Yep, it is, just checked on wolframalpha

When it all ends...what's everyone thinking of doing for muckup day?

I'm liking the idea of a for-sale sign outside the front of the school. Another thing I've always wanted to do is to paint [school name] '12 on the roof of the COLA. Best part about it is that nobody would know until years later when google earth finally updates their satellite images of the...

    sum of digit

^That. I've always been curious. You post such interesting questions that go far beyond the hsc course. It's intriguing.

    Updated Atar estimate

Just got my report, so I've got more accurate information than last time: School Rank: Top 30 Mathematics Extension 2: 94% 1/61 Physics: 96% 1/62 Mathematics Extension 1: 100% 1/101 Legal Studies: 91% 6/44 Music 1: 86% 3/8 English (Advanced): 72% 29/135 For MX1 and MX2 we consistently have at...

    Volume problem...

Firstly, that is a shockingly worded question. Doesn't even define what x, y or h are and then specifies that your answer has to be functions of x and y in terms of h. Basically, there's a linear relationship between h (the height) and x or y (length and width respectively), so you can write x...

raw marks to top the state

If it helps, I was sitting on 72% after the half yearly and ended up with 86. I can't remember what my final school mark was (and I've lost my report), but it'd be high 70s/low 80s because I improved significantly in the second half. I think you'd be looking at ~85 raw for a 92-93 to be honest.

    Mechanics!!!!

I don't know, Conics just "clicks" for me I guess. At the moment I'm finding volumes to be the hardest, simply because I'm always making small errors that screw the whole thing over. Admittedly, I haven't done very much on it - hopefully I'll improve :p So far I'd put it (from easiest to...

    Mechanics!!!!

Wut. That's the second easiest topic I've done so far :s Then again, I guess it varies from person to person.

    HSC 2012 MX1 Marathon #2 (archive)

Re: HSC 2012 Marathon :) Ahh shit. Left out kx on the height. Amateur mistake. 4 unit volumes, although you could do it with 3 unit knowledge, it'd just be a massive pain.

    HSC 2012 MX1 Marathon #2 (archive)

Re: HSC 2012 Marathon :) I think I've got a vague idea of how to do it... Would i be correct in saying there's 4 possible values for m? Wait, no there's not. Don't worry.
