i was a victim of "english teachers give higher marks to boy who writes 20 pages in exams" who ended up ranked higher in english and of course stole my exam mark for his assessment when i beat him in the final hsc exam.

i could tell that id beaten him straight away when i got my results coming second and having a lower assessment than exam mark also talking to him and finding out his assessment reinforced this

same thing happened for ext1 maths. damned laziness on my part all year in this subject

for the rest i got same for exam assess and hsc mark being ranked first and getting highest in the hsc exam

damned second places

I don't think it makes much difference about your rank. I mean seriously I got ranked 4th in phys and chem out of 8 students, 2nd out out of 21 students in english adv, first in 3 and 4 unit maths, and still managed to to well by doing well in the HSC exams.

but it also kinda depends on your fellow classmates

You probably came first in those subjects and got the highest exam mark in your class..

Person who comes first in a subject automatically gets the highest exam mark as their moderated assessment mark, which is usually their own.

hmm - i dont really agree with this one- coz i came first in one of my subjects and the assess' mark was way lower than my hsc mark .....

I agree, i don;'t see how it is possible

Either flyin' would be correct, and you were ranked equal-first with other people, or you were referring to a course such as 2u Mathematics, where the Extension 1 students are included in the rankings as well. So, although you may have topped the 2u course out of the 2u people, it doesn't count as being ranked first in that course unless none of the Ext 1 students beat you either.

If you're certain neither of those are the case, please post more details.

I think his English mark stopped him, had he got 95+, then he woulda got 100
