i'm doing gambling in todays society. everyone's pip seems so much better than mine, im so not motivated to start doing anything.
i suggest doing your RCG (responsible conduct of gambling) if you're doing this topic. it's a boring 6 hour thing, but you get a lot of good/interesting info on gambling and you can put it on your resume! it costs about $65 at most places.

I'm doing how family and friends affect ones body image, esp. in relation to gender and race - for example, my male cousin would be told to eat up whereas myself and my female cousins have been told since forever to watch our weight (we're wog, btw). I'm interested to see how offhand comments like "are you going to eat that?" could make someone's self esteem spiral and how that ties in with body dysmporphic disorder.

It's probably been done to death but it really interests me, so what the hey :D.

pip topic

hey, this is my first post. i have chosen to do "the new age western masculine culture" for my PIP. i'm focusing on "metrosexuality" versus "blokeiness" and "modern" ideals versus "postmodern". is my PIP original?

by the way, is it just me or is secondary information a real bitch?!?!?!?! raise your hand for primary stuff...

jack white, i really like your idea! More recently 'metrosexualilty' is becoming such a widespread accepted way of defining more image-conscious guys, and perhaps now that it has such definition, maybe more guys are inclined to follow a metrosexual way of viewing and presenting themselves. not sure if its been done before, but i havent heard anything. So i say go for it!

I'm investigating the effects that lyrical content in music has on whether an individual develops self-actualising characteristics...

i'm comparing the listeners of Xavier Rudd to those of Slipknot.

While i'm on the topic, if any of you are really into either Xavier Rudd or Slipknot and think that you could articulate to me why exactly you like the respective artist/band and what you gain from listening to them, then please PM me or email me or something! and once i've got all my shit together i can use you in either a focus group or interview or something...

cheers!

i'd be careful with this topic, it's going to become (maybe already is) very popular, what with queer eye and all. i think you'll need to be extremely original and make sure it totally stands out from all the others. metrosexuality is becomign an extremely big part of PC and i believe there will be a lot of PIPs related to this topic this year. good luck though and i hope you do well.

this topic really has been done to death so, as i said to jack white, make sure your's will stand out from the crowd. it's important that it interests you so this will probably aid you in this area. just make sure you really cleary define your hypothesis, etc. so that it's clear to markers because, no offence, your descrption above was a little hard for me to grasp!

suggstion: try and turn a positive spin on the topic. i don't really know how you could do this but rather than look heavily at eating disorders in general, try and just touch on it. i gather your PIP is dealing with them but they are a very negative topic and something not readily discussed in society.

question: what does your family think of this topic? do they realise the implications they are putting on you at all? sorry, just curious.

hey Soulshine and Winicat, thank you for your comments. i am very aware that i have to put an original spin on my PIP and i have worked on that thus far by eliciting not-so-common points in my secondary research. because of the rising popularity of "metrosexuality" i've decided to take the term on not simply as an image-based term but more so, a term which has more importance in terms of external representation of internal masculine identity. therefore, a "metrosexual" isn't simply an image-conscious man, he is a type of "new age" man in a postmodern world (opposite to that of a "bloke", a man stuck in the traditional world). in this way i also have to ask the question what does the term "new age" denote in regards to masculinity.

i want to uncover the state of masculinity in the 21st century and "metrosexuality" and external representation comprises only 20% of my study. what i am most worried about is keeping to the word limit, but on a larger scale - this isn't a huge problem...

Soulshine, i think your PIP idea is great, i really love rock music but my teacher wouldn't let me do my PIP on it because we are doing punk for popular culture. sorry, but i am not a fan of either Xavier Rudd or Slipknot...i am a white stripes man! my brother is a fan of Xavier Rudd though and my cousin is a fan of Slipknot. post me some questions to ask of them and i'll help you out if you want. your PIP idea is cool, how is it coming along?

sorry about the length of my post.

hey buddy. thanks for your feedback!! i might like to use your relos for my research! i really havent done anything yet though :| i only decided on my topic a week or two ago. does your xavier rudd loving brother also like michael franti? 'cause now i am thinking i might have more to work with with him, rather than xav. but yeah, we'll see.

yeah i like how you worded your pip idea just then. the whole idea of exploring the concept of the 'new age guy' in a post-modern world. awesome. keep at it.

peace.

the white stripes and the velvet underground are the only two "continuities" in my musical life, you sould know that.

i am neither a metro nor a bond boy. i don't believe in hair products and i don't wear singlets. i am not a bloke either, i hate beer, i am therefore a renaissance man.

btw, this is the society and culture forum, it's not msn! cu the day after tonight then. ciao

P.s.

i hate that little "THERE ARE 229 DAYS TO THE HSC" line underneath each thread. talk about intimidating. they should put "THERE ARE 200-and something DAYS TO YOUR FREEDOM" instead!
