reina def, mascherano probably.

gerrard and torres also.
i cant think of any other liverpool players that would make top 5 in their respective positions.

4 is a pretty high number though.

well
mascherano i class as a pure defensive midfielder
alonso comes under the deeplying playmaker label-beckham and pirlo come to mind.

cant believe you said deep-lying playmaker and forgot to mention fabregas in the same sentence.

also, beckham is a deep-lying playmaker because he is slow and old and can't be classed as a winger anymore.

eh fabregas has a very good all-round game, prolly class him as a pure center midfielder tbh.
his ability to push the ball forward ala gerrard isn't as well developed...but its getting there.

and actually no re; beckham, he played the same role at madrid before with some success.
his vision and ability with the long ball make him ideally suited to that position.

fabregas has been playing that deep lying midfielder role because his freedom to move forward has been curtailed witth he departure of flamini and arsenals failure to sign a replacement defensive midfielder. and as long as he is at arsenal, he will never roam like gerrard does. this is why we have players like nasri and arshavin.

in regards to beckham, i dont deny he has great vision and an excellent long ball, but i wouldnt class him in the same mould as andrea pirlo.

yes i failed to mention that; with flamini's departure he's been forced to do a lot more defensive work which is bad for arsenal and his own game.

pirlo has been a mutt recently.
beckham's been a superior player in the time he's been at milan, playing the exact same role.
