i dont think english is that much work load honestly... its not hard to 'memorise essays' which technically is all you need to do.

Blunt memorisation is boring. (Which is why I never memorised essays)

The only workload of English is actually analyzing your texts and coming up with an essay.

Reading them (It's not worth losing marks over in the HSC just because you hate english. Not saying you hate english though), researching the historical time frame (if you feel it's relevant), analysing texts, making TEE tables, writing essays, re editing essays, studying english (studying for english is different for every individual). TBH if you compare that to maths, it's going to take much more time

Also why would people memorise an essay? Memorising a 1000 word essay is a bad idea IMO bc the essay question can be so broad and there's so much to remember and write in 40 mins

neither do i. but its easily good enough to get a decent mark imo. I may try it for the HSC though if im confident enough..

Basically though Im lazy and do very little improvisation, I didnt really even try to memorise my essays but they stuck in my head somehow. Only rarely do I change the techniques or quotes my 'base essay/practice essay' had in them, I only remember doing it for Discovery so far honestly. And its because I think I know the Tempest really well and to me the quotes are easy to remember.

Just curious but what did you all do in the summer holidays after the first term of yr 12?

nothing. But too be honest my study pattern throughout the year has been HORRID, which is probably why I dropped ranks in like 2 subjects by a 1-3 spots.

• you should probably make sure all your notes are finished so far,
• do some casual maths every other day or every week even so you are up to scratch
• if you have any assessments first week or something be ready for them
• make an AOS story that will work throughout the year and think about it hard
• be 100% sure for your discovery essay and ORT.

For example.
Im changing my creative AGAIN. My mark to me wasnt satisfying in both half yearlies and trials, and I had a different one in both. I thinK i have a decent idea that can get me a 14 or something. So far I got an 8 in the half yearly which was absolutely pathetic and dropped my english rank heaps for half yearly report, and a 12 in the trials which was still pretty poor as I got 14 in both other sections (even then Idk if its cus they marked hard i was 1st in AOS i think)

I completed my notes for all my subjects that I had covered that term, and also went a little ahead.
I practice a lot of 4u. But most notably, i taught myself the whole 3u course

And on that note, what should you start studying first tbh? English or the subjects that come after? The only thing I've done since trials is prepare for my LOTE Speaking HSC exam, and done a few recent Maths HSC past papers. (4-5 for Ext 1 and Maths 2u)

Because it's easier to write the memorised essay with adaptations in 40 minutes compared to thinking of a brand new essay on the spot in 40 minutes. Times this by three because of three essays.

Edit: And also lots of people aren't good at writing on the spot, so going in with a memorised essay gives some confidence

My memory's pretty good so it only took me like 4 hours to memorise a 1300 word one but basically I read some lines a few times then closed my eyes, tried to say it then check. At the end of each paragraph I just typed it all out without looking and checked after if it was right. For second paragraph I did the same then typed out first + second paragraphs because I'm a decently fast typer but if you're really slow, just write it out or don't re-type the first paragraph. I only typed it because it saved way more time than writing, but definitely write it out after you memorised to see how long it takes to write.

lol I doubt they would ask that in the HSC or the whole state would be outraged but I'd be screwed for that even if I memorised quotes only. Yeah word for word.
