In the tute today, Shawkat said we get the essays back! I think its a bit odd because isn't technically an 'exam'? Maybe not... We also get our participation marks written on our essay when we collect them.

He also talked about scaling and how it always goes up around .5 - 1 mark. And something like if your raw mark is 74, you are pretty much guaranteed that they will push it up to 75 before scaling anyway... Seems pretty nice of them!

Does anyone know if they want the bibliography to have all thing we read or just stuff we cited? Because Rafiqul was like oh you mustn't have read much, but I had but not all of it ended up being relevant.

I'm writing it from this evening onwards, research always takes me a while...got to work hard now to get it done

The only sources you can put in a bibliography are those which you used. I find the best way to bulk it out is to load it up with resolutions, cases, things like UN Charter etc. And, if you use a book, list the book, then each chapter (if they are written by independent people) as well.

;)

I handed IL in today - hurrah!! Now on to doing EU and finishing it by Sunday I'm hoping. And then on to Int Orgs... nearly done!

Ok, what does the topic say?

basically:

"Is humanitarian intervention valid?"

Go through the article by Rodley and Cah in the 2007 human rights review (Access via library gateway under oxford journals, see link above in the thread)

You will find that there are 3 camps: illegal, legal and it can develop to be legal.

theres a wealth of footnotes on each camp and go through each.....

Printed, done.... drop it off tomorrow, goto the tute and finish.....

Also I Wanna Rock, humanitarian intervention is already "valid" if the SC wants to intervene under CH VII and the "responsibility to protect" concept....

So i guess your focus is mainly on unauthorised (non-UN) humanitarian intervention....

I am not sure how far we can stray from the topic but bear in mind that its called "validity of intervention on humanitarian grounds in contemporary context".

Is it legally valid? if not, morally valid?, in custom? in formal treaty law? etc. etc.

ANyway thats my take on it, you may have your own, hoep it helps....

hmmmm 1000 words to go and i still need to discuss so much stuff.

in 1000 words im gonna need to talk about the legality of HI in the charter, customary law and case law.

then the criteria for how it can be implemented.

then how far it can extend......natural disasters burma?

then conclude.

well this is a dilly of a pickle.

is the 10% + or - rule in place?

im thinking of abandoning my burma idea then.

ugh.

fuck i have 67 footnotes!

the most ever.

is none of this my own words or something.

ok i have 100 words left for the outro. i think all my footnotes are correct. too paranoid about it now though. or maybe its the coffee.

but this is my structure.

intro: 168
The History of Humanitarian Intervention and its Definition: 274
Kosovo and Nicuaraga: 393
Arguments for and against legality of HI: 1530
suggested criteria: 487
Conclusion: 100 words or so.

i mean he cant fail me for not answering the question riiiiiiiiigh. because i do everything i set out to do in my intro.

poor burma.

i should just throw it in for the source.
