At newcastle they teach you fortran before matlab so when you learn matlab you think it is the greatest thing in the world by comparison.
didn't do 4 unit so im not totally sure what the topics were but we did complex numbers, vectors, matrix operations, differential equations, series and sequences in our first year so these would be the topics I would be focusing on if you wanted to get a head start
