i'm with argonaut. i'm not fond of the idea of getting in a flying pile of steel and plastic no matter how well designed the aerodynamic piece of engineering is.
You know what, I don't like the laws of physics either!

i wonder if virgin or jetstar has these airbuses, it would make a massive taxi, and hence cheap flights hopefully

So far no LCC has ordered them (only the large international airlines)

I couldnt see Virgin or Jetstar getting one in the short or medium term. It is primarily a high denisty, long range aircraft. The smaller aircraft are better suited to domestic routes (eg the B737, A320 etc). The demand for 800+ passengers on routes in Australia simply isnt there, you would have a half filled plane. Maybe if demand increased years from now, you may see them buy a second hand one. But again, very unlikely.

Expect to see this plane on the international high demand routes. e.g for qantas sydney-london, Sydney-Los angeles etc etc

Boeing is in deep crap.. did anyone read that article in Time in February? Their market share dropped from 67% to 47% in the last 5 years, while Airbus's market share has gone up from 33% to 53% in the same period. More worryingly, Boeing's newest project, the 737, isn't attracting much interest from airlines at all. Could all be rather bad news if this trend continues. So really, Airbus is the most dominant plane producer now, no reason to hate Boeing, it's not Microsoft by a long shot.
I think u mean the 787, cause the 737 isnt new, not by a long shot its over 10yrs old

lol year, boeing is even talking about replacing the 737. Yeah boeings new one is the 787 Dreamliner (the 8 is considered lucky in asia hence 787)

And btw, the 787 is attracting alot of interest from airlines. They already have some 100+ orders, most recently this week from Air canada. Its going to be a sucsessful plane..

But yes, Airbus took over boeing as the world largest plane manufacturer.

I think the 8 has more to do with Boeing having 707,737,767,747, 777 as the designation of their planes, and 8 coming after 7

Out of the 15 international airlines to buy them, Qantas has bought a dozen i think and will start flying them in roughly 18 months on the sydney-london, sydney-los angeles routes.

and no it won't affect the ticket price at all.
of course it wouldnt affect ticket price, its a new plane, it might if anything increase the price for the short term, especially with rising fuel costs

Expect prices to stay about the same.

And btw even though the 787 is still in sequence, it was mentioned in the press release a few months ago when it was announced that the 8 was lucky and would attract asian orders (lol)

and the first Qantas flight will probally from Melbourne. And if you thought Qanats has alot with 12, EMirates has ordered 40, with an option for 40 more.....where do they get the money?!? lmao

From sources in the aviation community.
If you are interested in Aviation check out the worlds biggest Aviation forum at www.airliners.net http://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/

Its basically a race to see who is ready first. Sydney has being a bit slow to begin wideing its taxiways etc, while melbourne is doing it now (I believe the North south runway is closed atm)
If sydney is ready QF has a preference to fly it from there.

The runway isnt the issue.
The A380 can land at any airport that can land a 777 or 747.
The issue is that of Taxiway size, and gate configuaration. Most gates are too small to hold the a380, so many airports are building new ones and adding dual airbridges to load it faster.

there is no buisness and economy classes as it is
and for an hour+ flight who wants to pay for first class?

I thought he was talking about the plane, not the route, in that case they have biz and economy class, but there isnt much difference between biz and economy class on the 737's

Can someone explain to me why there's demand for such a low capacity long range aircraft as the Dreamliner?
