You mean 512/128. ;)

For ADSL at the moment, it is Bliink 512+ hands down (also Netspace isn't bad either).

www.iinet.net.au
www.netspace.net.au

For iiNet:
12GB peak, 8GB off-peak (20GB per month quota).
Uploads are free
PIPE access / peering networks - PIPE traffic is free
Dynamic IP
Supports churning
320GB of files are mirrored locally
30 gaming servers
iiNet FTP, Tucows mirror, Debian and RedHat mirror.
30MB of free webspace
5 email addresses
Peer to peer traffic for users within the same state is free (NSW)

www.broadbandchoice.com.au

You do your own research "..." ;-)

Netspace do offer very similar services to iiNet. I suggest that you read the above threads, at least the first one before you purchase any ADSL hardware.

Netspace offers 512/128 flat-rate plans, along with other ISPs (you have to find one that suits you, not every plan is best for you, and I can only give recommendations and advice).

The Home 'Supa' and 'Mega' plans on Netspace's 512/128 connection are just as comparable to iiNets, offering 8GB peak traffic for the 'Supa' plans whilst the 'Mega' plans are offering 10GB peak, 10GB off-peak (for a total of 20GB per month quota).

* 512/128 connection
* Plenty of gigabytes of monthly data transfers
* Both plans come with a dynamic IP
* Upstream (uploads) are free.
* Fast Churn (rapid transfer) is supported
* PIPE access and Ausbone (for Netspace) is available
* 150GB of files are locally mirrored
* Access to 30 gaming servers, Netspace's FTP, Tucows mirror.
* 10MB of webspace
* 1 email address per account
* Peer to Peer traffic is free for users on PIPE, within the same state (NSW)
* Flat-rate plans available on Netspace, no excess charges
* IRC (AustNet) server available, free traffic.
* Gamespace and OGN gaming servers - free traffic.

iiNet do offer the same level of service, along with other useful (and free) services, including:

* Access to PIPE Networks - free intrastate traffic on those ISPs connected to the PIPE. This means that you can send data and download from other users who are connected to the PIPE and this will not count towards your monthly quota.
* PIPE Networks' large FTP server for all your patches, linux isos, demos and other needs.
* Bit Torrent (BT) access, again, this is all free for those within the same state. (Get an IP filter and access to a tracker)
* Free IRC traffic for those on PIPE, through the AustNet's IRC server. You can stay on IRC and not have to worry about traffic going towards your monthly limit
* DC hubs, free traffic once again - users within the same state.
* eMule and eDonkey P2P servers - free traffic for those on PIPE.
* Plenty of FTP servers, including: iiNet, Internode, iPrimus, Pacific, TPG, Zip - includes all of your Tucows, Debian and Redhat mirrors eg movie trailers, linux, games, demos.
* Free traffic on game servers including Pacific, Persistent Gamer, Internode, iPrimus, HunterLink, iiNet, Comcen, BigBlue, supporting games like HL/CS, JK2, Q, Q2, Q3A, RTCW, UT, T2, NWN, BF1942.

Oh, and radio streaming from Nova 969 is free too! (Radio over the Internet) :)

* Plenty of genres: euro, trance, dance, jungle, classical, psychedelic, modern, alternative, rock, pop, metal, commercial radio.

The list goes on...

Victoria have their own eMule server: VixMule (you are correct psycho_mushy).
New South Wales have their own, but it is NSWDonkey

Other NSW information:
BT (or BT++) have torrentz.net - a BitTorrent tracker for NSW PIPE customers.
DC (or DC++) have pipedcnsw.no-ip.info - a PIPE DC Hub for NSW PIPE customers.
eMule/donkey have nswdonkey.net - eMule/donkey server for NSW PIPE customers with IP filtering.

aside 4000 posts! :shy:

Also this is nearing warez-talk and could be closed and locked. So don't ask anything else. (Winston feel free to edit my post if you feel the need to :)).

In a nutshell, it's a local peering exchange. ISPs subscribe to PIPE (www.pipenetworks.com) and data is routed through the PIPE. Every ISP that is then connected to PIPE is able to transfer data through the aforementioned PIPE and is therefore "contained" within the PIPE. Users who are with ISPs such as Internode, Netspace, Powertel, Primus, Comcen, TPGI, Pacific, Connexus, iiNe, WestNet, DART and many others - all connected to the PIPE will then be able to transfer data between their customers, within the same state for free, as PIPE acts as the local internet exchange (the 'middleman').

What this means is, I could be on Netspace ADSL and you can be on iiNet ADSL - your uploads will be free, and equally, my uploads will not count towards my monthly quota. What does this really mean? It means that data that is transferred to you, from me, will not count towards your quota (or mine). So with many ISPs within Australia, and customers within the same state (eg NSW), they will then be able to transfer anything they like to their friends on other ISPs, who are also in the same state.

If all of the above does not make any sense, then just read this line:

"You can send data to your friends for free" :)

I would also like to say, that PIPE offers other services and many ISPs who peer through the PIPE will offer equally free services (Nova 969 once, but I am not sure now, had offered their radio streaming service through the PIPE, and so was quota-free). To answer your question, "is it some big machine sitting in the middle of NSW" - technically, no. But essentially, yes! It's just a "big machine" that stores and transmits data from ISPs within the same state - and retransmits and sends the data (from one ISP to the other) - all within the same state, for "free". ISPs will pay a sum to subscribe and connect to the PIPE, but there are no "excess bandwidth" charges for the ISP - this means that local peering is the way to go, as it reduces the burden on the ISP itself having to have external data (you-ISP-overseas-ISP and back to you). In this way, the ISP saves money, you can save time (low pings with games hosted through the PIPE), you can save your monthly quota, which means that you won't be downloading tens of gigabytes each month overseas, but will be instead getting it from within Australia and within the same state, which will then mean that ISPs can offer more quota per month (say "unlimited") because they know that their customers will be using lower amounts on average, because of access to the PIPE. I should also note that data that is transferred interstate is counted towards your quota, as local peering exchanges (internet exchanges or IXs) are not designed to operate between states. As it is only a local exchange point, data that is transferred intrastate is quota-free and therefore non-attributable to your monthly download limit (if any such limit exists).

I'm giving up on these forums in the not-too-distant future as well Winston, in the hope that I will start university and have other commitments, instead of BOS (at the present time). I have no intention of taking over from you Winston, at all. Other commitments on the Internet (you know what I'm talking about, herrick will fill you in ;)) are already keeping me busy, now that the HSC is over. So no, I won't be 'stealing your thunder' and taking away what you have already established here in the IT Stuff forum, but I'll stay until early 2004 or the beginning of university itself (I was going to leave before and/or straight after the HSC but I wanted to be here for Ambition and read the new posts regarding UAIs and HSC results - I predict that there will be an influx of UAI prediction-requests following the release of HSC results, on the 18th).

I completely understand where you're coming from - as I myself have done something similar in the past. (I had to give up 'doing things' for the school certificate, and entering the final years of secondary education). I'm a little bit fed up with new BOS members coming here simply for the sake of UAI predictions and the influx of new members during the HSC exam period (feedback threads).

As for the 'bored users' - this is bored of studies :p (Just kidding Winston). I understand this comment as well, as most of the users are simply being pain in the backsides (some, not all). There's absolutely no reason why I should be here right now, other than to await the upcoming Ambition dance party (where I will go crazy :shy: ) and following Ambition, the release of the 2003 HSC results and UAI - Christmas will then follow, followed by the New Year and this is just about the right time for 'spring cleaning' - the 'dismissal' (as you've put it) of past and current
Year 12, class of 2003 BOSers. It's sad, but "nothing gold can stay" :(
