State Percentile
If your state percentile in a certain subject is 80%, that means, 20% of the people in the state have gained better marks than you, and you have gained better marks than 80% of people in the state.
If your state percentile in a certain subject is 30%, that means, 70% of the people in the state have gained better marks than you, and you have gained better marks than 30% of people in the state.

ur state percentile is what u HAVE achieved .... if u have a state percentile of 93, it means u have beaten 93% of the candidates. u dont have to score a percentage of 93 in order to get a percentile of 93.
small scenario:
there r 10 students in ur legal class. the ten marks in the trials are 94%, 91%, 90%, 86%, 84%, 60%, 58%, 54%, 53%, 48%.
now, since the person who got 94 beat everyone else, his percentile is 100 (note that he doesnt have to achieve a mark of 100 for that - lower would suffice). the person who got 91% scored equal to or greater than 90% of the candidates, hence his percentile is 90% (though his MARK is higher ...)

scaled marks, how much do you guys reckon for 98? thing is, my school gave estimates, my scaled marks added to 445, yet he said something about ranking/playing around with those marks and my estimate was 96.9, so, for the actual hsc, what kinda marks do you reckon to get 98?
or is he mad, and would i really get like 98.5 *crosses fingers!!*
ok, simply, if i am hoping to get 90, 93, 93, 90 and 94, am i looking at 96.9???

If the estimates have been 'accurate' in the past, then I see no reason why they aren't now. But as is in most cases, schools tend to give estimates which are off, for whatever reason.
I say, just do your best, and don't worry about estimates. (And that goes for everyone else asking for estimates.)

I've only ever seem like low 80s raw mark for school assessments
Was wondering if someone got say first in the grade with 82% in English, would they get an aligned mark of 98-100?
Also what would someone who get around 60% raw mark get if they are average in the grade?
