Need some insight :) My subjects are as follows:

Adv. English
2U Mathematics
Biology
Chemistry
Business Studies
Agriculture

I really wanted to do 2U SOR instead of agriculture, but not enough people chose it. But most of the people that chose Maths X1 chose 1U SOR so 1 ( or possibly more) class for 1U SOR will be running.

Now my question is, is agriculture worth it? Or should i drop Ag. , pick up 1U SOR and 1U of any other subject (such as ceramics etc.) and drop that 1U in Year 12 whilst keeping 1U religion, so my total units will be 11.

I don't really want to pick up a whole 2U subject instead of Agriculture, i think my study load will be plenty with Biology and Chem.

Any thoughts/opinions will help. Thanks in advance.

Well it depends on what school you go to as well. Like if you went to an Agricultural school like Hurlstone - you'd probably be better off doing agriculture because they'd probably have specialist teachers in the area, and since they're an Agricultural school - they'd prefer it if you did the subject in your HSC.

However, based on the subject itself - I would highly recommend SOR1. Although it doesn't scale so well - it is probably the EASIEST subject to gain marks. I can honestly say I did not study for Religion at all and I came 2/150 after the Prelims. The content is really easy and logical to understand.

Also I don't think there would be much of a difference in scaling between Agriculture and SOR1 - however don't quote me on that.

Seems to me that if you wanted SOR2, then you'd probably enjoy SOR1, right? Not that I've done either subject, so I don't know how they're connected, but the-derivative seemed to like it...
Also. If you don't want another 2U subject, then you probably don't want 2U of agriculture - for the study load reasons you outlined, and whatever others :D So the 1U of a random subject that you could drop sounds like a great plan to me, and (I could be wrong, but) it seems like it sounds like a good plan to you, as well. So I, as a completely random person who has no idea of your own personal circumstances, recommend going with SOR1 over agriculture. But that's just my opinion :D

SOR II > Agriculture > SOR I in terms of scaling.

I am aware of the fact that scaling is not something to consider but it is something that you should really look into if you want to gain the best scaled mark from each of your subject.

Keep Agriculture if you don't really mind it. SOR I is easy, yes but the subject itself is pretty damn dry and boring & the scaling is poor.

How many schools even offer ag?
Hm...

first of all, all agricultural schools would do it (about 10-20 around the state, I am guessing)

some other selective schools offer it (e.g. Gosford ande etc.)

Some private schools offer it (e.g. Barker College)...

I am guessing about 30 schools in total?

I see. Thanks lyounamu, I did decide to keep Agriculture. I can make it work, but yeah I do care about scaling, although i'm sure i can pull of 90+ easy in Agriculture.

Thanks for everyone that posted.

There are only 4 agricultural schools. Just a note, ag is pretty easy stuff. Then again I did it for 4 years. It's alright in terms of work, but the assignments kinda suck in Prelim.

Agriculture doesn't have a very high scaling does it? Not to say that low marks always come out of it. I enjoyed it in junior years, but would not choose it for seniors  Kind of a waste for me.

Most students only do it because they go to an agricultural school and most kids go to an agricultural high school because it's academically selective. If schools like James Ruse and Hurlstone weren't academically selective - agriculture would be next to dead in my opinion.
