In terms of defining the most symbolic album, possibly Muse' Absolution.
Best album? absolution, or possibly LP's Hybrid Theory

My favourite album of the decade is Watch Out by Alexisonfire. But to say it's 'The Best' is too much.

Nevermore- Dead heart in a dead world
poisonblack- A dead heavy day
Machinehead- The blackening

been a shit decade for metal tbh
You're an idiot. It has been an incredible Decade for Metal.
I would bother to list good Metal albums released in the last ten years, but that's a waste of an hours worth of typing at least.

Artists who've released albums for either best or most influential album of the decade:

Karnivool
Linkin Park
The White Stripes
The Raconteurs
Tool
Porcupine tree
Muse
TV on the Radio
Radiohead
Sufjan Stevens
Slipknot
Sigur Ros
Coldplay (really gotta be the fastest growing band out there at the moment)
Daft Punk
Opeth
The Mars Volta
Arcade Fire

Actually now that I think about it, this is an awful decade to pick this. Because recording has gotten easier and cheaper, so bands can afford to be more prolific... sigh... and that's just what I was thinking of off the top of my head.

Oh god, that list makes me realise how much of an NME hipster kid I was as a teenager. Though, admittedly, the publication didn't turn to total shit until about 2006/2007ish.

Should probably be writing for them or something, though.

also, The Libertines should definitely be #1 over The Strokes

Rufus Wainwright came in at #52 and it was with Poses?
To be honest, Want One and Want Two were better.

Personal picks of album of the decade?
I would change my mind all the time.
A Funk Odyssey by Jamiroquai
This Delicate Thing We've Made by Darren Hayes (people are probably going to hate this suggestion but to be honest it is one of the most amazing albums I've ever listened to)
Want One by Rufus Wainwright

But then again there are so many albums out there that I haven't listened to so what I think would be "Album of the Decade" could be totally different to someone else's opinion.
