I'm a little bit concerned about my progress. I attend a fairly good school, but it's new, and I don't have the most motivated people in my year. My marks are fairly good, and I'm doing subjects that require some form of effort. I'd probably be in the top 10 out of about 120. I haven't got all my marks back yet from half yearlies, but I want to know when it comes time for HSC/UAI will having these type of people count against me? When I get all my marks/ranks I'll post, becuase I think the rank is more important than the actual mark?

You are going fine unless you aim to achieve 99+ UAI. :uhhuh:

As everyone else said, you're doing fine.

Having 'those type of people' will only count against you if either they
- disrupt you from doing your work, therefore you will get crap marks OR
- they manage to beat you.

Otherwise if you keep coming within the Top 10, then you should be fine.

If the people in your school aren't motivated that's their problem, ignore them.

BTW, if your coming Top 10 in all of your subjects, then you're doing pretty well, but you should always be strive for 1st! :p

In terms of scaling can you get scaled down if the rest of the people in your school doing the same course dont preform well?

It depends on where you are situated at in terms of ranks. If you ranks are shit and the people are shit, you will be affected by them. However, if you come first or get good ranks, you will hardly be affected. Higher your rank the less you are going to be affected.

Let's put it this way...
if you guys have a high average... then being ranked in the Top 10 is pretty good, because chances are all of you guys will do good.

If you go to a school where everyone is shithouse and will fail, then you should be aiming for first, otherwise you'd be having shit people beat you, and in that case you'll be affected.
