can someone inform me here.. why would you need that an AMC certificate? does it really make a difference when you apply for employment?
apparently it looks good in your cv... well, that's how my teacher talked our class into doing it... i suppose it shows your willingness to participate in national competitions? i dunno :p

Shows that you have an ability to think laterally and solve complex problems involving why the fuck the deep fryer won't work.

AMC certificate gains less credentials then say the MBMC competition althought if you show continued participation yes it would. Shows your intrigue for mathematics outside of the school syllabus

if it's only willingness to participate then u dont need distinction :p
apparently in my school its compulsory for the 3U classes so willingness is not reflected at all

Coins question: How many degrees of revolution does a coin go through, assuming it moves around all the coins and is back in its starting position.

Someone else will have to provide the diagram, but I provided a rough one in a previous post regarding the question. If you view that diagram, ignore all my words and numbers, and then assume that all 4 coins are of equal size, you have the diagramme.

the diagram involves 3 multually externally tangent coins in the middle

you have a fourth coin on the outside, touching at least one central coin at anytime.
now rotate it around the central 3, how many rotation does it go through it self after one full revolution about the central 3. (the coins dont skid)

holy crap... then im wayy off for the coins one.

i put 900

my reasoning being.. if you draw lines connecting the radii of each of the coins, passing through each tangent.. then u end up with an equilateral triangle. this means that 60 degrees of the surface of that coin cannot be rolled. which means 300 is rolled each revolution. .. wtf.
