There's money to be made in lots of things... I know a plumber that rakes in $160,000 /year. Sure he works near 12 hours a day and runs his own business, but if you're going to be earning those sort of amounts in law or medicine I'm sure (most people) will have to work just as hard.
actually, you make aa good point. i was talking about this with my housemate (a midwife) the other day - if you compared someone who leaves school at 15 to do an apprenticeship and someone who goes through all of high school and uni to study med (which could be up to 8 years if they did a first degree then postgrad med), the first person doing a trade would be earning more money much earlier, wouldn't have to pay tens of thousands in HECS and the person doing med wouldn't be able to catch up.

You'll regret becoming a doctor or lawyer for the money less than you'll regret becoming something low paying because you liked it ;)
Is that from past experience?

What if you wouldn't hate law/med but just would much rather do something else? And still want the coolness of law/med..

Future experience, most likely.

Funny story, this random girl sitting beside me started speaking to me in a lecture a while ago. First she said "hey, I’m Sarah. This course seems difficult aye?", I said "Yeah, it seems to be challenging", then she went on to say "I wish I got into med, I didn't sit UMAT in time". I was surprised and asked "Oh, you want to do med? great!", she replied "Yeah, everyone does! I love dermatitis!..."

I was like wtf?, dang lol...

Yeah lol, it's inflammation of skin tissue. Driving home on the freeway I had to stop on the side because I was laughing too much, and in the lecture I was trying so hard to hold my laughter.

I suppose it's possible that she could love it in the same way I 'love' tuberculosis (in that it is a fascinating disease). However, I can't quite see myself exclaming it during a first meeting like that... it's as though she's trying to make inflammation sound trendy.

This is an interesting question that is highly debated. What specialist/surgeon earns the most money, provided that they are working in a good position. Someone was saying that opthalmic surgeons earn more on average than cardiothoracic and neurosurgeons, then someone else comes along and talks about plastic surgeons...

Any ideas? (NB: this is a question just out of pure interest) :)

i know the surgeons get a crapload more money from taking cases at private hospitals vs. only working in public hospitals.
