And minai's the new king of grammar.

Intel clearly have it in the CPU sector. Not only are their chips fast and reliable, they now span across platforms, to cater for virtually every computer user. AMD make great products. But it terms of owning the CPU market, Intel wins.
No doubt Intel still currently holds the majority market, but AMD is making great strides in business penetration. Within the significant U.S market, AMD's market share grew from 17.7% in Q3 to 21.4% in Q4, breaking the elusive 20% barrier. They've dominated the high-performance market for some time now (in fields regarding gaming and such), and recent benchmarks within recent years have shown improvements in the business computing market too. Their dual-core desktop solutions are becoming increasingly relevant (surging shipments of Opteron server processors have been one of the strongest reasons for AMD's success during 2005, and general desktop processor market share grew from 20.4% Q3 to 24.3% Q4) and the new 64-bit Turions are making incursions into Intel's Centrino dominated mobile market too (~12% - ~15%).

Yes, and I do not disagree that AMD is making great strides in business penetration. I own two AMD machines myself even. They make quality gear, and as you demonstrated, are starting to put a dent in Intel's market share.

However, they still only account for less than a quarter of the entire market. To label them "king" of CPUs is slight folly, when it is clear that Intel is dominants the CPU industry. When AMD's figures are closer to half of the market share, then we can talk about who's the king. :p

There is only one king, and he died in 1958.

The lion is the king of the jungle and a majority of lions live in the savanna anyway. Its still king, though.

Need i go on?

BTW, who here would love to punch Steve Jobs in the face? I know i would.
lol! I considered expressing similar sentiment earlier and decided that it was a bit out of place, but it's good to see that I'm not the only one who feels this way.

It's ok, the ads probably have a trendy coloured background and striking black and white outlines over that, so people will eat it all up anyway :)
To Apple's credit, they usually pick good songs for their advertisements and are really good at blending it in... sure that add, say, the one where the guy is on the plane with the notebook is annoying, but it does get the point across. Or the BMW iPod advertisement. Or even the iPod Shuffle.

yeah what the hell? boring litte tasks? PC's have been the only option for decent games for ages, mac has absolutely no claim to the gaming market and so iam going to laugh and switch it around, because games are much more exciting than boring little iBooks that can only do boring little tasks like word processing.

PC is better than shitty little macs which have fucked up ways of doing things[no right click until recently] and like no support for anything decent, like games and associated programs.

Apple is a shit company that only makes money from stupid buyers, like govt people who think "it will be only used for internets, lets get a mac!" godam fools, just get a slower PC like a Pentium II or something.

I'm not going to bag macs specifically, it's just that PC's are the established "compatible with everything" machine, and it'll take a while for Apple to convince developers to make everything for both PC's and macs simultaneously.

Funnily enough, I dont think ridiculing most of the computing market (ie pc users) will help Apple.
I think loonix should launch a counter campaign, bagging apple users for being retarded.

I think macs are more efficiently programmed though aren't they? as in, in the past with powerpc components, with a much lower clock speed, they could still perform equally to much higher spec'd wintel boxes running programs like Photoshop and video processing.

Anyhow, I wish my PC could run Mac OS X a bit faster.. even on the 2.8ghz HT machine, Mac OS X still runs slowly.

IT Stuff Rules

No AMD vs Intel arguments please. I understand that this is an Apple (and somewhat an Apple vs. Intel) discussion, but let us keep the patriotism of AMD vs Intel to ourselves, if at all possible. The posts haven't developed into the flame wars of previous topics yet, but I'd like to prevent that from happening.

But if people can maturely discuss the benefits of amd vs intel, as has been the case so far, what's the problem?

So they are basically implying that 98% of people are stupid for buying a PC.

Interesting marketing strategy.
It works. It makes the consumer feels shit, and so they want to upgrade themselves to something better.

Apple has always been good at marketing.

The rules explicitly states no 'hate threads' of this nature. This implies to me threads like 'OMgz0r Intel is teh sux0r LOLOLOL'. In this particular case, there were only a few posts involved, with the emphasis still on the issue of Apple and their marketing strategies.. so there isn't a whole thread on AMD vs. Intel, and plus again, it was civilised and not plagued with flaming and 'hate'. I just wanted to clarify a few things to nwatts -- in a civilised manner. To further this point, I'm confident to say I'm not even an AMD fanboy; infact I bought a new laptop 2 weeks ago (which arrived today) boasting the highly-capable Centrino platform.

Did you read my post? See below. It seems to happen every time AMD vs Intel comes up.

And the same to JKDDragon

You did nothing wrong, I am simply ensuring the thread doesn't degenerate into a flame war. Please read my posts more carefully in future.

Oh MedNez, you know myself and many others here are mature enough not to let a flamewar start between AMD & Intel. :)

lol! I spent ages trying to figure out how to refer to the rest of the "market" there without using the word shitboxes. I must have forgotten about it after a bit and just done that instead, whoops!

What I mean to say is PC has been, and continues to be, the only option for gaming on desktop systems :)
That's because most games are written using Microsoft's DirectX API, which isn't supported on Mac. It's not cause the hardware couldn't cope, its because game developers won't rewrite games for 5% of the market share.

Exceptions to this are rare, but one major one is Doom and UnrealTournmanet, who are both cross platform, and Doom uses the OpenGL video API which is open source, and something that microsoft intends to take out of Windows Vista.

I'm aware of this, and that's what I was commenting on, any implied deficiency in the hardware was accidental, as I was referring to the current state of the platform as a whole.
