A noob question here, but.. with a B Arts can you major in a Table B subject?

I'm just looking at courses for next year, and was considering majoring in History and Psychology... could it work? And does this allow to be able to do any extra electives, or am I limited to those two if I want to major in both?

You can major in a Table B subject in the BA as long as you major in a Table A subject as well. So History and Psych is fine.

A double major BA would normally have some space left for electives in senior years. A HSTY major is 6 senior units out of the 16 you do in total. PSYC I'm not sure about, but it wouldn't take up all the other 10. So you'd have elective space.

I've got a "Careers market" on in two days, and our Careers Advisor will be speaking to us soon (although he's pretty much useless..) so I'll find out some more info soon. I'm still undecided between USyd and UNSW..

Another thing I wanted to know was... how much difference is there between doing a Psychology major in a BA, and doing a BA (Psychology)? Just some more Psychology stuff in the latter, or.. ? :S

According to some of the people at this Careers Day, if I do psychology in a BA, as a major, I can't go on to do Honours (or at least, it's really difficult) in Psychology, and get the accreditation... is it as difficult as they say, or do they just not know wtf they're talking about?

Not at all. It's probably just easier for people doing BPsyc because all they do is psych and they're not distracted by other subjects like english, sociology, etc.

Are you sure? If so.. that's shiite. What if.. you were to take extra time to do the units from Psych that you can't cover in your BA usually, would that be enough to go on to honours? I need a way that I can do that, because otherwise.. there go any plans I had for doing psych honours..

You can do up to 48cp of non-Arts intermediate/senior units in the BA, so if you dedicate them all to Psych, get the required average (credit) and fulfil the other prerequisites you can go on to Honours. As far as I can see the only difference between a BA majoring in Psych and the specialised Psych BA, apart from the name, is that you can do one more senior Psych unit. Which isn't necessary for the major or for honours anyway.
