Was nervous during the first session but Ponting (if only we could sack him from the captaincy!) and Katich played the most chanceless centuries you are likely to see. Hopefully we can consolidate tomorrow, lead 150+ by stumps, and only have to bat once. Draw is still slight favourite though you would suggest.

I've got a bad feeling about how the series is gonna pan out. Not a whole lot of bat and ball contest, Panesar the only batsman to get out in single fingers, Cook the only specialist bat to get out for less than thirty.

Australia to win 2-1...

I don't think any English players would make the Aussie team bar Flintoff and KPP...

I reckon this test is heading for a draw.
I would be inclined to agree. Both teams are a bit nervous so i'd say they'd try and bat each other out of the contest. Having no genuine attacking spinner in the australian side doesn't help either.

I think the bowling attack would be a fairly mixed thing. Battingwise it'd just be KP though, probably for Hussey which I never thought I'd say.

Don't know why Punter's so reluctant to go with Katich and Clarkey using spin at times. .
I'm not sure if Tubby has commented but if you look at how he used to use Bevan and M Waugh as genuine bowling weapons I'm sure if Taylor was captaining today Katich and Clarke (and Hussey for that matter) would be doing alot more bowling in the nets and alot more bowling in the matches. Steve Waugh was less inclined to use part timers from memory .

I think Australia would be happy to have a spinner like Swann or Panesar. Hauritz is shit.

are any of u watching it on sbs?

Stuart Mcgill and the other dude (absolute nobody can't even remember his name) are so friggin biased i remember when Kerry O'Keffe hosted SBS's coverage how balanced the comentary was. Stuey is frikin cock shouldn't be comentating on how Swann or Panasar can't spin.

Thank god for Marto...

Katich has to be the most boring player to watch imo, his SR is 45ish leaves virtually everyball i know its test cricket but his century imho should not be considered a century. Its like when a dude gets 90% in general maths and you compare this feat with a dude who got 90% in 4U as being on par with each other.... if Hughes got a century or Pontings century has more integrity than Katich's anyone with a few shots and is able to do the shuffle can score centurys with minimal risk at his strike rate...
Oh dear God please leave the realms of test cricket forever do not write, do not call.

Kerry O'keefe did not host any program on sbs last series that was Steve Abbott aka Sandman.

O'keefe hosted a show on channell seven which was about the one day series and co hosted it with Shane Lee and none other than Stuart Macgill.

I don't listen to the TV's stuff I listen to Jonathan Agnew and the team on ABC radio but have heard Stuart Macgill and Greg Matthews(a fine assett to the game, go watch 2020 you plebian) on the radio many times before and they are both articulate, insightful men particularly when it comes to spin bowling.

As for Katich's batting, again please watch your IPL nonsense stay the fuck away from the Ashes you have just made an outrageous criticism not just of Katich but of some of the finest gentlemen ever to play the game, Mark Taylor, Geofferry Boycott, Collin Cowdery, Bill Lawry, Lindsay Hassett, Herbert Sutcliffe, Bill Ponsford, Sir Jack Hobbs and William Murdoch. The powers of concentration and the disciplineneeded to play a succesfull defensive innings like Katich did are immense. Stay away from test cricket, are don't want you contaminating it with your filth.

Doubt it. Panesar is very one dimensional.

Well, they can't. And he is far more qualified than 99% of the population to comment on spin bowling in test cricket.

You are an imbecile. Katich perfectly complements Hughes and Ponting. Just like Langer complemented Hayden in our halcyon years. Great test sides have balance. What a ridiculous analogy.

Some might argue that thats one more dimension than Hauritz has to his bowling, But when you add englands bowlers to the equation a four/five quicks strategy becomes more viable and Panesar less useful.

calm down lol

i agree with you both that Katich played a very useful innings in terms of the foundations it laid for us, but it certainly was not as entertaining as Ricky's or Kevin's or Clarke's because his SR is far too low even by Test crickets standards.

They're out there to entertain, that can be done whilst playing a steady but not too extravagant innings like Ricky's. Geez
I want to kill him. Can I kill him?

Stuey doesn't seem to be a natural commentator on SBS....
Probably because the rain has meant he was pretty much winging it. Also Macgill was hosting the program whereas before he's normally just been one of the "colour commentators."
